I just use Ultra Fuel by Twinlab because I like the taste, straight or with protein powder. Yeah, it does cost more than proteinfactory or kilosports, but haven't found a taste combination that I like better. I use the fruit punch.

Not to sound like a complete idiot/ignorant newbie, but isn't plain maltodextrin the only carbohydrate with a glycemic index higher than pure glucose (105)? Why do people take it?

yea maltodextrin has a super high GI,i think 150,i guess its good if u want insulin levels through the roof and to gain weight(fat and muscle)

Ah, gotcha. That's why there's hundreds of grams of it in that weight gainer stuff, i guess..... I dunno, though, I thought y'all tried to avoid pure sugars, but the insulin connection makes perfect sense. <--- slightly dumb, i guess.

High enough on the GI and you create an insulin spike. This spike helps to facilitate better absorption of protein/BCAA's into the muscles. This is in part why carbs are essential to building mass; without carbs, your protein will not be as useful. |
