I've always downed a dozen raw egg whites every day during my cycles (6 morning and 6 nighttime). I figured that the raw egg white was most bio-available in its raw form (also, it's pretty easy and no mess with cooking). However, today I heard that this is not good to do b/c of the risk of bacteria. Can I get salmonela (sp?) from eating uncooked FRESH eggs? Has anyone had any experiences with this? Thanks bros...T

Yo. I have never heard of anyone getting sick from raw egg whites, other than just the taste of them. I usually eat about 3-4 per day, and I have never had any problems. Good luck bro.

I don't know if it's more bioavailable, but I would think anything in liquid form would be versus the solid form. Consider protein shakes, for example. Make sure the egg white are pasteurized. They are to my knowledge, in which case there would not be a problem. My workout partner eats them all of the time and he swears by them. They definitely cause some nasty protein farts!! I tried them once and was unable to stand the texture. I ended up making an omelette with the rest of the carton.

be a man and drink 12 WHOLE eggs a day? Valdez, you follow that regimen and I will be paying for your cardiologist in 7 months! And I do believe that they are more bio-available in the raw form. After all, any type of cooking whatsoever destroys nutrients in raw food (ie-uncooked veggies are better nutrient wise than steamed/sautee). Also, I think the fact that one is drinking slime helps in the digestion as suggested above. However, be warned! This causes some nasty, searing-ass, egg farts which will make adults nautious and kill small children...no where is my egg separator???? ------------------

If you're worried about salmonela try this trick, put six egg whites in a glass and then microwave it on LOW for forty seconds, stir it up and then nuke it for another forty seconds on LOW, you're now ready to drink away. This should be enough to kill the bacteria without cooking the egg and denaturing the protein too much.

I get up around 2am to pee pretty regularly (because of all the water and protein I take in the evening I guess), and I take 6 egg whites while I'm up. I half-cook them (before going to bed) with 1/4 cup of water in a saucepan. I keep stirring on highheat until the eggwhite forms into small bits of soft curds and I take it off the heat. The semi-liquid is easy to swallow - last thing i want to do at that hour is chew!

The Rocky Balboa thing with the eggs was never grounded in science. Why risk a bout with projectile vomitting & explosive diarrhea, or worse, to get your protein. Egg whites are not even that great a protein. The quality of protein is measured by biological value (BV) which is the rating given to proteins based on their ability to reach the blood stream in a "good" state; meaning with all the amino acids in tact and able to function properly. Whey protein has a BV of 104 to 159, depending on whether or not it is hydrolyzed, whereas egg white has a BV of 88. This means that a good quality whey protein is almost twice as effective as egg white. Whey also contains the highest percentage of branch chain amino acids (BCAA), L-leucine, L-isoleucine and L-valine. BCAAs are the amino acids used by muscles during intense bouts of exercise. I'd boil 'em, eat less of them, and look into a high quality Whey protein.

Food Poisoning surpasses FEELING like your going to DIE, it is PRAYING you will DIE...

yes i have had food poisoning. i had to go to hospital. i think salmonella only is completely killed at 80*c, whereas i tink pasteurisation only goes to 71.7*c (i think). an egg coagulates (solidifies)at 80 so i'd say frying is ok (use little oil and nonstick pan - i use 1/2 a teaspoon!

With the quality of protein you can buy today, I believe there is no reason to eat raw eggs. Solmonela (spelling?) can make you sick for months, hell I've even heard of people being sick for a year from that shit. It's a no-brainer for me.

'cuz egg whites make an awesome omelet. Besides, some foods are better cooked. isn't there something about the biotin in raw egg whites that hinders something else in them? I also hear that certain foods (like tomatos) have their nutrients absorbed more efficiently when cooked, (as long as the fluid from the cooking is imbibed as well, in the case of vegetables.)
