quote: The most important thing is that you count calories. 1g per lb is the norm, but not if your 280@30%BF you needn't worry about losing muscle. I would go with the 1g per kg of bodyweight for someone of your composition. about 100-200 grams a day, you don't need to be to specific. avoiding sugars, sat. fat. should be your #1 goal. don't even think of doing a keto diet, it's not meant for the avg joe trying to lose weight it's meant for competitive bodybuilders (regardless of what people say) just make sure you are consuming low-glycemic index carbs.

Hey Valdez, I always have thought what you said to be true about ketogenic diets. Seems like someone who is obese can be taking a risk while on one. I've always been convinced that they should not be used unless someone trains with weights (glycogen depletion, and loading).

You gotta bump the protein up big time, and lower your carbs. Eat low carbs for three days in a row and then high carbs 2 days in a row, no more then 12 weeks in a row. Then when you've lost the right amount of weight you want to, you can go back to a normal diet of 1-1.5 g of protein and 2-3g of carbs and less then 30% of cals coming from fat.

i'd say 1g/pound helps preserve muscle. But in order to build i have to go to 1.5 or 2g/pound. That's my body, you have to see what your body works with...

I think I would go with about a pound per body weight. The most important thing though is that you consume less calories than you burn. Be sure to get on a resistance training program, with at least 4 to 5 days of cardio incorporated. By the way, it can be done. When I started training I weighed in at about 240, in the 30% fat range. In less than one year I hit my lowest weight in many years which was 186, and about 11-12% bf. Then, I kept cutting my body fat down to 10% but managed to get my waist down to a 32" and weight up to 193. Currently, I'm bulking, I'm up to 203 at 12% bf looking to get to 210 before I cut up in the spring. Today, I average about 250 to 300 grams of protein daily. You can do it, just train hard and keep asking questions. Best of luck. |
