They do compete for absorbtion and I wouldn't take them together, split them up.

No, just take them at diferent times. You definetely will need to use both supplements to grow. The creatine will help increase protein synthesis, so the protein you do take will be better utilized.

Gotogetbig,
I like to mix them in with my protein shakes, I had great gains. As far as the thing about fighting for absorbtion some proteins take hours to be absorbed and if your on any kind of diet like I used to be (eating every 2-21/2hours) its kind of hard to keep them seperate and not miss a meal. Besides everything you take is fighting for absorbtion, i.e. vitamins minerals

This is how to do it.

within 15 min after your workout: 60-100 grams of carbs (some fruit is best, with a source of complex carbs) + about 5-15 grams of creatine.

25 min after creatine: 40-75 grams of protein and 25-50 grams of carbs.

Use foods that are easily digestable for best results.

Take them seperately. I recommend taking creatine in the morning an hour before your first meal or 30 minutes if the creatine is effervescent. Then take another serving before you go to sleep. Or 3 hours after your 2nd to the last meal of the day, then eat your high protein meal an hour after taking creatine. Yes, some protein formulas do take a few hours to digest, but it shouldn't take any longer than 3 hours.

An hour before my first meal I take 5 grams in the morning w/ my vitamins and 5 grams glutamine. After I lift I take 10 grams creatine/10 grams glutamine/60 grams protien/75-100 grams carbs.
