I am going to enter a bench contest soon and it will start in about 3 weeks,,, I started a bench program about 6 weeks ago and I weighed 173 and would of fell in the 171 class, but now I am weighing in between 183 and 186 since I started the program so if I weigh in at this at the contest I will be in the 181 class,,, the problem with this is I would feel a lot more confident if I were in the 171 class because there are some pretty impressive people in the 181 class that are going to be there, the 181 and the 191 are going to be the toughest weight classes the guys who usually go to this contest tell me. So what I'm wondering is, is there anyone out there who can give me some advise on how to lose some weight and keep my bench up to what it is at or even keep going up, with in 3 weeks,,,,,, or am I just S.O.L. My bench is at about 330 right now, that is doing it clean, feet on floor, butt not leaving bench ect. Feel free to E-mail me with some advise please, or reply or what ever. thanks

Tough decision man. You can always try the old diuretic trick starting 2 days away from the contest. Try lasix or something. cardio is another option, as long as it isn't alot. I would say go with what feels best to you. If you think you would lose to much strength if you lost weight then just stay large and see if you can hang with those other guys. You could definitely make the weight if you cleaned up your diet(no carbs real late at night), took lasix, cut back on volume of weight training(no assistance), and a little low impact cardio. Start taking ECA right know along with all of this and if you see weight loss in the first week and no strength loss then stick it out up until the contest. Good luck. e-mail if you want.

i wouldn't worry about it all that much. Go to the meet and have fun. Cutting 10 pounds in 3 weeks wouldn't be all that hard if you were not worried about loosing some strength. If you have your heart set on loosing the weight make sure that from here on out all of your calories are high quality. No McDonalds, Burgur King, you understand i hope. Try the ECA stacks or take some ripped fuel b4 workouts to keep your energy levels up, and if your on creatine cut back the amount your consuming, but not on the amount of water. In my opinion i would try and gain weight to compete in the 191lb class (thats just me though). I know this may sound nuts but the heavier i am the stronger i am the better i feel and compete but that is just my personal experience. Anyways i would go for the 191 pound class, get a good feel for what it is like to compete and enjoy. I don't know about you, but one thing i love about powerlifting meets is no matter what you weigh or how much you bench, squat, or deadlift, everybody is there cheering you on. So i guess what i am getting at is if your not one of the top class powerlifters in the world then just go, do your best, watch and learn from the veterans that are there, and use it as a humbling experience to motivate yourself to say "Well i did my best but now i know how much harder i have to work to get to the next level"

"the body can take just about anything you put it through it is the mind you have to convince"

This reply is for crash.
As this is your first comp I would not worry to much about your weight. Get to the comp and lift, that is the important thing. I am an amater too but have had experiance in lifting in compertition.
I you want to lose weight but not strength then I surgest that you keep on a NO FAT diet, this means no fat. Checken and tuna are good with only rice as a side dish, but be carefull, because when you start it is dificult to stop. As you start to see the weight fall off you dont want to put it back on. In doing this you can lose strenth, but keep a good phisique,

I do not know what organization you compete in, but the weight classes are 165, 181, and 198. Those are the three you will be pondering. If this is you first meet i would just do the 181 and feel real strong, if you experienced and it sound like you might be a little new, you can always do the coffee and steak the last three days. Thats good for 5 to 8 or so pounds. Also if there is a night time weigh in take advantage of that. And carb up that night. I have competed in about 15 meets and i dont worry about the last 5 lbs or so until the last 5 days before. Only eat protein the for dinner the last week if you having trouble with your weight. I compete in the 220 class and my last meet was a three lift and i was 9lbs over weight the sunday before. I was going to try the 242 class but changed my mind the last week. So i took some clen, and i didnt know how much to take and i ended up triple dosing and lost the weight plus 2 more pounds, along with diet. That was too much. Advise try for 165, but if you dont make it than dont sweat the 181's. But dont pick a class cause somebody you know is going to be there. If you go to APA website, look in florida meet results and you'll see the guys that beat me at 220. But you will see that i would have won the 242's all of them. I go for new PR's. Thats the name of the game. Jason k
