Vanguard, I never heard that before but there was a case a couple years ago where foreign children got Loopus from certain sodas, and pop. You arent suppose to drink the stuff after it has been sitting out for over an hour. So there is one reason not to drink the stuff, stick to water!

A friend said it turns to a certain alcohol after 84 degrees. You know that homemade alcohol that turns people blind.

That is totally false. It is composed of two amino acids joined via a simple peptide bond. The AA's are aspartate and phenylalanine. If you are a PKU patient then you should not use it though.

Lets try to stop this before it gets out of hand. Aspartame contains two amino acids bonded together by an ester bond. Upon heating, this bond can be broken and methanol can be released, which most know is wood alcohol and a deadly poison. BUT all things are poisons; the difference between a harmless compound and a poison is the dose. The body has the ability to metabolize small amounts of methanol, if not then you would die from the microbes in your gut that produce methanol from the metabolism of sugars. Another danger would be fruit juices, which also contain methanol as a byproduct of microbial metabolism of the sugar. The amount of methanol that is formed from aspartame is smaller than that found in fruit juices. All of these horror stories are rampant on the Net, and people seem to flock to this stuff, but the fact is tons of people use NutraSweet and are not having the symptoms that is claimed.

ASPARTAME IS FINE......stop the INSANITY!!! Check out www.caloriecontrol.com It was approved by FDA in 1988, safety supported by more than 90 studies conducted over 15 years. In addition to the U.S., it has been reviewed and determined safe by regulatory authorities in about 90 countries--including Canada, the United Kingdom, France, Switzerland, Italy, and Belgium --by the Joint Expert Committee on Food Additives of the World Health Organization, and by the Scientific Committee for Food or the European Union.

Hey the stuff tastes like shit to me anyway. Leaves a horrible aftertaste in my throat not even resembling sugar.

Started using Equal (aspertame) about a month and a half ago. Wanted to cut out as much sugar as i could. I used between 2-4 pks a day for about 3 weeks and noticed my eye started twitching. It wasn't just one of those things that starts and then a few minutes later it stops.. it would twitch for hours. Then the next week the other eye started. At times it got so bad i couldn't even see. after about 2 and a half weeks of this, I asked my Dr. what could cause this. the first cause i was told was that many people experience this from using Equal. And that it COULD be the cause or not. So.. after that I quit using it for 2 weeks. the twitching began to cease some what. 2 weeks later, GONE. Maybe i was using too much, i don't know. I only use it occasionally now. I now use SPLENDA. Tasts better and is made from sugar with no calories. josh

this is a great example of why you shouldn't trust the FDA. Bros.. the FDA sucks a big cock and yes it is manipulated by big money making companies. There's a shit load of things that shouldn't be on the shelves but it is because big spenders put money in the FDA's pocket to keep it legal. I have known this, but the other day on TV they were interviewing some woman from the FDA and she basically said the same shit i just did now. Don't trust them or think because it's legal it's ok..... |
