Once in a while I have to work a midnight shift, like tonight. I got up today around 5:00am, went to the gym at 6:30am had a good work out came home tried to sleep, but had no luck. I ate really good all day long, but now what should I do? I should be sleeping, but I am at work. Should I still be eating as much, or as often? Are there things I should stay away from, like carbs or should I eat like I did all day?

One more thing. When I get home I am going to crash big time. When should I have my last meal for the night?

That screwy shift work...and not even on a regular basis makes it tough. So you've been up all day...ate normally, and know will be up all night but sleep tomorrow?

Hmm....well personally, I cut out starchy carbs the later on in the day it gets...so for my last meals of the day I'm eating protein, fiborous veggies, some fat but no starchy/carb stuff. You might try that for your late night work schedule.

I don't really know what would work "best" though. Especially since its not a regular thing. Experiment some..see how you feel, how you sleep.

I have worked a night shift for 5 years, 2 days on 2 days off. I know it is so hard to make your body do something when your schedule is completely opposite half the time, especially sleep. I have tried everything, the only thing that works for me is absolutely no carbs for your last 3 meals on working days. I work 12am-12pm and eat every 2-3 hours, by 8am or 10am I am so exhausted from hardly any carbs, that I could just drop and I go home and sleep from 2 until 10:30pm! That is even after taking fat burners twice,at 12am and 4am. I know most of you wont agree with me, I am only saying what has worked for me.

Maybe try a protein bar or a shake...I work crazy hours sometimes myself and I try to have little or no carbs after 9pm.
