Recently I have been having terible trouble with my memmory. I have been on a low carb diet for quite a while, does this affect the functions of the brain. I do mean my memmory has gone to almost non exsistent. I pritty much have no short term memory EX: if someone gives me a phone # i have to write it down and ask them 2 more times to repeate to get it all down.
OK it may not be that bad but its bad.

HELP......

Carbs are the fuel for your brain functions.

How long is "quiet a while"? Initially, when people transition to low carb diets, they will experience some thinking problems, as the brain is used to using glucose for its functioning. However, It can and will adjust to ketones in time. In my experience, this has increased brain function and sharpened thinking skills.

When I am dieting, especially towards the end, close to showtime, I find that it is harder to make decisions, (you know think fast sort of thing). It is from the low carbs I am sure, because I don't feel like that when I am carbbed up.

According to Dave Pulumbo being in ketosos makes you more alert and he claims this is why it is hard to sleep while in ketosos. As far as memory goes...I never heard an info on that. I know when I'm in ketosis all I want to do is eat cereal there for my consintration is on that so I ingnore other things.

This can vary by individual.

Some folks report that they feel sharper and more creative when in ketosis, others say they feel like they are in a fog...

Personally, I go into a fog right when I enter ketosis (I can tell now when I go into ketosis because I instantly become half stupid), then after about 12-24 hours in, I seem to adjust and operate normally.

Since I'm into like week 9 of my CKD (it's a lot closer to the Anabolic Diet now), I've completely adapted to "fat for fuel". I don't feel sharper or dumber than when on a carb diet. I feel as I should - normal. The only exception is when I carb up; then I feel like a sloth.
