I changed my diet up slightly today and eliminated 1 3/4 cup of 1% milk that I have been having with meal 1. That takes all dairy out of my diet. I don't know if that's what caused it but I felt like shit all day. I thought about going home sick but somehow managed to stay until 4 p.m. I skipped my workout and came home and ate about 15 tbsp of peanut butter. Then I went to the store and bought a bag of licorice and a pack of mini rice cakes. Ate 'em all. Then had a protein shake. I feel I can still eat more. I have been dieting for quite a while now and this is the first I have gone bezerk like this. I am feeling much better though. Do you think this was caused by eliminating the milk or just a mental breakdown? Should I try eliminating the milk again tomorrow?

Good for you! Sounds like you were long overdue for a little break from dieting. What's your diet look like without the milk? And how big/lean are you, how much cardio, etc......

Whoa! Between your diet and workout, I get the feeling you may be long overdue for a break. Not taking a day off every week tends to lead to overtraining, especially when you do cardio just about every day. Most people on 5-day splits don't even do cardio. When you eat as low carb as you, anything more than three days per week of cardio is completely unecessary. Also, if you have been on the 5-day split for an extended period of time, consider taking an entire week off from weight training of any kind to give your nervous system a much-deserved break. Even though you may be training each muscle group once a week, by weight training multiple days in a row, you heavily tax your nervous system, making 5-day, or even two-days-on, one-day-off splits overtraining "land mines". Combine such a split with intense cardio sessions and a carb-restricted diet, and you are bound to see overtraining symptoms creep up and hit you like a ton of bricks. I have been guilty of overtraining in very similar ways in the past, but have worked hard to convince myself psychologically that training two days in a row, regardless of how body parts are split up, is not always productive. In the same way, dieting seven days per week without a cheat day is also counterproductive, as it slows your metabolism and just plain fucks with your head. Your little peanut butter/licorice/rice cake binge was well deserved and long overdue, and should become a regular, once-a-week addition to your routine - regardless of weather you are bulking or dieting. So don't beat yourself up about it! By the way, why are you intent on cutting all milk from your diet? Unless it gives you digestive problems, or makes you look and/or feel bloated, keep it in. If it does, of course remove it.

I would have to repectfully disagree with you on the last part about the milk.If your looking to lose BF do it aggressivelly.Taking out milk eliminates your sugars even more as milk contains lactose which is a form of sugar when broken down.As for overtraining if your making gains and you feel fine keep going, most people are to into this overtraining thing.
Just a opinion thats all.

About the overtraining, it is more or less a personal thing. I was just throwing out a suggestion. If you have great genetics, what's overtraining for me may be undertraining for you. About the lactose/milk thing, you are right - lactose is certainly a sugar, but I have found it isn't one of major concern (like say, fructose) in the battle with bodyfat. Milk products are very low-glycemic, thus not causing insulin spikes. Also, of the simple sugars, fructose is the only one that must be avoided during fat loss, as it tends to fill up liver rather than muscle glycogen stores. Once liver stores are filled, fat is stored. Glucose on the other hand, should be consumed post-workout precisely because it fills up the muscle glycogen and only when that is full, the liver glycogen. I have not come across any research that points to lactose having any extraordinary fat storing effect, like fructose, but I could be in the dark. Bottom line, if milk's keeping those last few pounds on, cut it out, but make sure it is actually the lactose that is the culprit rather than simply the calories milk caries with it. Mine are only suggestions and examples of what tends to work for me - I won't take offence if you disagree!
p.s. I am a big proponent of agressive fat loss, so do what works best for you, just don't lose muscle doing it! Good luck.

Thanks for all your help guys/gals. I think it was more than a mental breakdown now. I was running a fever of 102.1 last night so it looks as though I've come down with something. It is probably what made me feel so crummy and not the low carbs. Once again, I respect your opinions and appreciate the help.

I hope you're better real soon.

Agressive fat-loss is the goal, but 1650 cals at your weight is radically low, even more so if you don't allow yourself regular higher calorie days. Just something to think about when you're back in the swing....
