I am a 31 year old male. I use to weigh 285, 5 years ago. I am now 195 at 5"11' and 9% body fat. I started out going to the gym 7 days a week, but eight months into that I started getting tired on my sixth day. I then started going 5 days a week, but that also made me very tired and I was not able to push myself as hard as I wanted to. Now I am down to 3 days a week and have energy for lifting, but I use to do aerobic exercise after lifting (stair climber 30 to 45 minutes) too, but started getting very nauseated while doing it and the rest of the day afterward. So now I don't do any of it. The question I have is I always look flat. The only time I look and feel good is when I am lifting. Why is this?? I watch everything I eat. I am 9% fat so I have to be doing something right. I am not weak for my weight. My best lift is the dumbbell press and I can get the 110lbs for 3 sets of 6. When I am in the gym my vascularity is crazy. I have great striations and definition in my chest, shoulders and arms. But an hour after that it's over, my cuts are gone and I look flat!! What is going on here? I do not eat too many carbs at all, because I am extremely afraid of getting FAT AGAIN. I eat a lot of protein and some fat. One more thing, this is kind of personal, but what the hell. Two years ago I had problems getting an erection. I had a blood test done and it was found that my testosterone was low (how low, not sure) I was given a shot of testosterone to bring my levels back up. I guess it did because I'm not having that kind of trouble anymore. But I had another test done about 3 months ago and I feel they are low. The doctor feels they are okay and will not prescribe me anything for it. Below you will find my levels, tell me what you think. Prolactin, Serum 12.9 Testosterone, Total 323 TSH 1.200 Would you please try to help me out here? IP: Logged |

There are a few possibilities here, keep in mind these are just "possibilities", anyway, you might have fatigue syndrome, it kind of pops up when it wants to, right after you workout or during you are experiencing hypertrophy(increase in the size of cell), this is the pump you feel, after a few hours after a workout atrophy(decrease in size of cell)occurs in a small manner, this maybe why you feel flat, no one feels jacked the fuck up all the time, the flat feeling is normal, lastly go get some more blood work done, make sure you have a full spectrum done. Hope this helps. IP: Logged |

I really think my Testosterone is low, but that doctor doesn't think so. The blood tests were done in the morning when you have the most Testosterone. I could just imagine what it is around six at night. My doctor will not do anything about it though. I guess it is time to get another doctor. IP: Logged |

Hotblood, you said that you "some fat" in your diet. Since I've suggested this in about 30 of my posts, no harm in suggesting it once more; make sure you eat between 20 and 30% of your daily calories in the form of fat. Also make sure that a good portion of that fat is saturated, because cholesterol is a precursor to testosterone. I am a young guy and I was having problems with test levels - I never got blood work done, but any man can tell when this particular hormone is lower than normal. You just know. I did a bit of reading, and jacked up my dietary fat intake (before I was eating about 15% fat, all of it coming from essential fatty acid oils and nuts - neither of which do shit for testosterone). I also started supplementing with zinc. BIG DIFFERENCE! I almost instantly felt myself again - in the gym and out, without having to visit my doctor. Between eating more saturated fats and taking zinc, my test definately started flowing properly again. I hope this helps you a little. p.s. thank god you stopped working out every day - even if you are chemically enhanced, doing that will lead to overtraining. If you are natural, you should never lift more than 3-4 times per week. Ideally, don't lift two days back to back, so that both your muscles AND your nervous system get a chance to recuperate. Your nervous system doesn't care that you trained chest and triceps the day before back and biceps. While splitting up your bodyparts may give your muscles time to recover, it isn't sufficient for your nervous system. Also, don't worry about going nuts on cardio - do it twice a week, just to keep your heart and lungs healthy, lift intensly, and watch your diet; the bodyfat will stay off. As for your feeling flat, it may be due to a lack of carbs. While too many carbs will undoubtedly make you fat, too few will certainly make you flat. (sorry about the stupid-sounding rhyme - completely unintentional!!) Eat carbs at breakfast, before training and after training. About 40% of daily calories from carbs won't make you fat, and may drive more glycogen into your muscles for a better pump and more fullness throughout the day. Try eating a good quantity of carbs on trining days, and park them on off days. This keeps you pumped and lean. Sorry about the giant post, but hope it is of some assistance. IP: Logged |

Maybe I could try flax oil. I used it once before with no real results, but I only took 1 tsp. a day. How much should I take? Are you sure it won't make me fat? Remember I do not do cardio anymore because it makes me sick. IP: Logged |

While good for the immune system, recovery, etc. flax oil doesn't do anything for testosterone. Take 1 tbsp. per day anyway for the health and recovery benefits. It will also make your muscles more insulin sensitive, allowing for better carb metabolism, so despite the mild caloric boost, it may make you leaner, or at the worst, it won't make you fatter. I would also include a good piece of red meat daily for one of your meals - maybe at dinner with steamed vegetables - as well as 1-2 whole eggs with the whites at breakfast. Research has shown that performance tends to improve when fat is raised to a reasonable level. Good luck. IP: Logged |
