Read article on ironmagonline by eric hesse called the One Meal A Day diet, its really not though. It sounds calorically correct and very comparable to what I do now, just with less fruit and I'm gonna try it for a month. Maybe its what I need for some more fat loss. I'll also use a eca stack and add some extra cardio. What do you think.I revised it alittle bit. B- 2EGG WHITES 1 WHOLE EGG, 8OZ.SKIM MILK,PROTEIN MIX, 8OZ. O.J. L- 1 CAN TUNA IN WATER, 1 ORANGE PREWORKOUT- 6OZ O.J. POST WORKOUT IMMEDIATELY- PROTEIN DRINK IN SKIM MILK POST WORKOUT 1-2 HOURS- SIMPLE CARBS AND PROTEIN DRINK DINNER- 4OZ. LEAN MEAT, 1 OZ. CHEESE, 1 BAKED POTATOE. IT ALSO SEEMS ALOT EASIER THAT WHAT I EAT NOW AND NOT ALOT OF PREPARATION. ERIC HESSE SAYS THAT EATING 6 TIMES A DAY CAN MAKE YOU FAT, BUT LOOK AT THIS MENU AND SEE, YOU'RE ACTUALLY EATING 6X!! MAYBE HE MEANS WHOLE FOODS? IP: Logged |

Um.....I think you need to read all three parts of that diet series... The first article is the one meal a day one which is an introduction to the diet which is called Animalbolics... Techinically speaking it is one meal a day. A "meal" consisiting of protein, carbs and fats. The small "meals" during the day are actually just maintenance feedings of protein only. IP: Logged |

I read all three parts to the diet, and while it is more or less a sound approach to nutrition, I don't understand why he called it one meal a day. The whole point of the diet is that you eat low GI carbs and protein all day, drink high GI carbs and protein post-workout, and eat high-GI complex carbs (i.e. potato) with protein an hour or two after the drink. This shouldn't be called "Animalbolics", "One Meal a Day" or any other goffy-ass name - it's how most intelligent bodybuilders eat, and have been eating for years anyway! Hesse basically rediscovered the wheel on this one. IP: Logged |

It was invented by Animal...hence the name. If you don't know who Animal is you don't know hardcore bodybuilding... I don't think it's an ordinary diet....that's ludicrous, because if everyone was following this, nobody would gain any muscle and we'd all be skinny fitness geeks......there's no way you can gain muscle while following this type of diet. And...another thing that separates this from a "normal diet" is that with a regular diet you eat the same every day, wether you train or not....with Animalbolics insulin potentiating carbs are only eating post workout, ie, 3 or 4 times a week. That's what I got from the articles at least, but then again, I tend to understand these things rather easily. [This message has been edited by Serial Joe (edited July 13, 2000).] IP: Logged |

Rachann - How are you doing on this diet? How long have you been on and what have your results been so far? I was interested in doing this as well as I feel I have hit a rut in my current diet. I want to lose a good 10lbs but do not know how to figure out what my ratios should be. Any advise?? IP: Logged |

Been on it this past week, today is a free day for me. Seems I'm a little hungrier than I should be though, but I'm also working out alot harder(one muscle group 5 days)see post heres my plan(this was diet before I found the 1 meal a day.)But, the workout is the same plan. I'm going by calories. I needed 2440 to maintain my weight, so I dropped it 500 cal. daily for a slower loss of fat hopefully :3500 cal week. I just figured it out adding calories of each food and let the mrp take the remaining calories(just find one to fit your needs.I also was worried about slowing my metabolism but since you really are eating 6x it won't slow it. I really learned the importance of eating often for higher metabolism. Anyway, also try to somewhat find out how many calories your burning through excercize to figure out calories. It seems to be working out pretty well for me as I like a structured plan, I will not weigh myself until next weekend(I'm doing every two weeks now so I quit feeling bad when the scale inches upward even though my goal is to look more muscular. Hope I helped you out a little?? I'm learning too. Email me if you'd like to talk about it some more. IP: Logged |

Allow me to make one clarification with respect to preworkout meals. I would not advice the consumption of protein rich meals prior to training. The body will allocate greater amounts of energy into the digestive process. Thus resulting in less available energy for training. Predigested whey powders on the other hand are fine. There going right into the bloodstream fueling damaged muscle fibers. ------------------ IP: Logged |

The diet looks poor, regardless of your goals. ------------------ IP: Logged |

Twisted steel's right. The only reason you would need to include any protein in a pre-workout meal is to keep a positive nitrogen balance throughout the workout. You don't need more than 20g, and whey is perfect because if you have to digest while trying to lift, besides feeling like dogshit, it'll make you much more weak. IP: Logged |

Rachann - I was wondering what your current measurements were and what your goal is with this diet (if you don't mind!). In your second response to me you have that you needed 2440 to maintain your weight, you dropped it 500 cals daily - now you're at 3500 cal/week - is this right?? According to the diet you listed you're easily over the 500 cals. Trying to figure this diet for myself - please critique the following for leaning up: Currently 140lbs, 10%bf & wanting to drop a good 10lbs and 2-3%bf stacker 1/2hr before breakfast B: 2 egg whites, 1 whole egg Mid morning: 8oz oj L: 6oz. tuna/water 8oz. oj Mid afternoon (pre-workout): shot of whey protein in water with stacker Post workout: 2 shots whey protein in water D: 1oz. cheese 4oz. chix breast or sirloin 1.1oz. rice TOTAL: 1101 calories, 136.5 protein, 88.3 carbs, 23.3fat IP: Logged |

Superstar2b---The calories and macronutrients you listed for yourself will achieve your goals, but I think you need to change your goals! 2-3% bf at you weight is only around 3 or 4 pounds, but on such low calories and protein you probably WILL drop 10 pounds to lose those 3 or 4 pounds of fat. In other words you'll likely lose more muscle than fat. IMHO You should consider raising your total calories, especially increasing your protein intake to at least 200 grams per day to spare muscle and increase your metabolism. IP: Logged |

Sorry Superstar2b- I meant that 3,500cal a week I'm reducing by 500 a dayx7days=3500calorie deficit=1lb. Now do you understand what I mean? I went back to see what I wrote(I'm a dork) A for my measurements they are (as of today)36.5 chest/28.5 waist/hips 36/thighs 23/arms 10.5left/10right.I weigh 145# at 5'6. My goal is to lose FAT mainly the stuff around my waist some on thighs(inner). I want to look more what they call buff I think. To me that looks sexy. I'm not exactly sure what my B.F% is I guess 18-19 maybe I had it done in January and it was 17.4%. I have not had it done since then cause its so expensive. I plan on getting it sometime next month. Whoops, Superstar, I forgot about the last part of what you wrote. I think your calories are a little to low, and try a little more fat too.Maybe through a little bit higher fat protein drink or think about adding flaxseed oil. I'm gonna try that. We need to remember that we are trying only to lose fat not muscle. IP: Logged |

Thanks Rachann. I started on Monday with the diet and I feel better already! My lower stomach has finally flatened out and it only took 2 days to see the difference! I've cut out a lot of the carbs I was eating as well as the veggies & protein bars during the day. I think that was the problem because I've noticed that at night after dinner (4oz chix/beef and rice or 1/2 potato) my stomach looks full. For 5 days I'm going to do this and then have a cheat day, resuming for the next 6 days. My calories have only been hitting 1000/day so I'm going to throw in another shot of protein at night before bed. Its great though, I've finally come across something that is working for me! Thanks - keep in touch with results. I'm going to be doing my measurments on Friday, I try to do them once a month. Good luck :0) IP: Logged |
