Hey everyone... My girlfriend and her mom
swear that bannana's have fat in them..
I'm like... No, they can't! Anyone know
anything about this? I searched the net
and didn't find anything. If anyone can
find a reputable source that lists the
fat content, please post link so we can
end our argument!!

Many Thanks,
Dr Vinculum!

Fat only comes from animal sources...fruit doesn't have adipose tissue...

Recoome, fat does not come just from animal sources. Plenty of plant products have fat: avocados, nuts, seeds, etc. I can't think of any fruit with any significant amount of fat other than coconuts. But even then, I don't think that coconuts are considered fruits.

No fruit has fat, but beware the simple sugars. For the most comprehensive database on the nutritional value of just about any food, check out www.nal.usda.gov/fnic/cgi-bin/nut_search.pl

I'm bumping Vlaovic's response. This is the same food database that I use. They have everything you can think of.

No fruit has fat in it? Look it up. It's not a lot in most cases but it's there.

I thought most fruits contained some fat and a lot of simple sugars.

Some people, the only time they eat fruit is when its in a pie, cobbler, or maybe in this case...banana split.

Bannana's are fattening due to the high sugar content. The more ripe the bannana becomes the high the sugar is. As a result any unused sugar will be stored as fat by the body.( this info is available on the diabetic sugar chart )

f-f-l that is a misleading post. All foods are fattening if you don't use the energy that they contain. Some foods are absorbed more quickly, but that rate can be changed by combining different types of foods together. To say flatly that "bananas are fattening," is incorrect.
