I heard from several competitive bodybuilders that raw eggs are better than cooked ones 'cause the protein in cooked eggs gets denatured when heated, hence, reducing its so called "bio-availability". Any info on this...? I get my eggs from some high-tech poultry farm with strict controls so salmonella isn't a concern for me.

Cooking eggs dont hurt them a bit, Ive consulted diet guru and dietician alike on this matter. Drinking them is fine, if you dont mind shitting every 15min. from salmonella poisoning...but I guess thats cool if you like that sort of thing.. later,

Hell, I've been downing 40 raw eggs a day without the yolks to get my fat-free protein and have not experienced any tummy problems. It's cheap, it's good protein, it's gross but hell I'm still studying and it's all I can afford. ( If anyone can tell me how to supplement ny diet with 240gms of fat-free protein CHEAPLY, I'm all for it !)

Vary your protein sources bro. Eggs are great, but the amino acid chain in eggs is much like whey, in that it is broken down and used very quickly, but none the less eggs are great. I for one refuse to give up my morning 10 egg omlett with salsa and cheese..heh..heh..heh.. You need protein from whole sources like red/white meat, and dairy products as well as some soy. I would recommend going to www.proteinfactory.com and checking into their penta pro formuala protein. Its the best supp Ive used to date. Just my .02

Hey Hitter - 40 raw egg whites doesn't = 240g protein. there's 6 in a whole egg. Only about 3 in just the white. chicken isn't all that expensive.

Protein is NOT that expensive. Designer's only like $20 for 2 pounds, Labrada's Pro-V 60's only like $30 (that's my favorite). All the other posts are right, though, VARY YOUR SOURCES. I have a weird thing where I won't eat the same food twice in a day. Ground turkey, chicken, tuna, eggs, steak, pork, salmon, etc. can all be purchased cheap at a store like Sam's or a cheap grocery store. My 2 cents... ------------------

Raw eggs are good for you as far as nutrition goes but as previously mentioned watch out for salmonella. I work with testing eggs for Salmonella and I can tell you that it is out there in the eggs. It is estimated to be 1 in every 20,000 eggs, but why take the chance. ------------------

Why take the chance to catch Salmonella, when cooking an egg does not make a significant difference. Also, raw eggs bind up biotin and make it unavailable. Here's another little fun fact, the number of antibiotic resistant strains of Salmonella are increasing due to antibiotic use on animals. So if you are lucky enough to catch this one, then you may have to kiss your ass goodbye.

I can vouch for the salmonella poisoning. I just recently had it here like 3 weeks ago. This was the second time I have gotten it. The first time was from some chicken I ate 5 years ago from a restaurant. About 3 weeks ago, I ate some eggs at like 1:30 am in the morning, and because I was so tired at the time, I didn't cook them long at all (I was thinking: What are the odds of me getting sick anyways?). Lets just say that this was 5 seconds of thinking I wish I could take back. Anyways, the next day was a Friday, and I had some weird stomach tightness and cramping throughout the day. At around 5:00 in the afternoon, I was taking a final at school, and it just hit me full board. I couldn't even finish my final because I was so nauseous and sick feeling. This shit caused me to drop from an A+ (highest grade in the class) to a B+. To make matters worse, just before class started (not knowing I was gonna be that sick), I popped in some Lipokinetics capsules, 25 milligrams of ephedrine, a Yohimbine capsule, and an extra 200 mg. of caffeine. Lets just say that I was a walking inferno, and I seriously thought I was gonna die. I only had 2 weeks left on my diet, and it pretty much screwed it up the for the whole following week. I was so weak the following 5 to 7 days, that I just ended my dieting phase and began a mass phase. I was sleeping with like 10 blankets and still shivering with over a 100 degree temp. Every 10 to 15 minutes I had to take a dash for the can and shit my brains out, and if I even tried to fart, well lets just say, I had to change the undies. I just layed in bed for 2 and a half days with misery. I couldn't eat a damn thing, except drink some small amounts of water. What else, Oh yeah, I lost a lot of muscle (that ought to be a good enough reason for people on this board). I could only lie on my back because any other position made me puke, which is another thing I forgot to mention. A final line before I go here, the worst thing is when you are shitting your brains out, then all of a sudden start puking at the same time. Man, I could go on and on here, but listen to every one when they say cook your damn eggs. This is a pretty embarrasing thing for me to admit when I am majoring in dietetics and food science, but this shit does happen. Take it easy man.

I read some where that eggs have the highest quality protein other than whey. But then I've also read studies saying whey is not all it's cracked up to be. Either way, it is a good idea to obtain your protein from a few different sources (beef, chicken, and tuna are my fav). ------------------ |
