you need a little carbs before sleep to help in the release of serotonin so you can secrete malatonin production.i know tryptophan can help but only with carbs,by itself tryptophan wont work... IP: Logged |

dang..im not smart enough to explain it like seeseerider did. but this is a very often discussed topic. many bodybuilders stay wawy from carbs after 6pm, especially if they are dieting down...something to do with the carbs being converted to fat. me personally Like to get alot of carbs when bulking up. but now that im dieting down i get so few carbs anyway i dont have any to spare for my last meal. ------------------ "...damn you for not giving my TEST" - Metallica IP: Logged |

The reason to limit your carbs before going to sleep is because you usually don't need energy to sleep. Since carbs are your main source of energy, they will get converted to bodyfat if they aren't used for energy. Now if you are going to be up all night fucking some chick, by all means eat some carbs. Another exception to the rule is if you work out at night. You need to take in carbs after you train to replenish your muscle glycogen stores. IP: Logged |

You eat carbs earliy in the morning at lunch and early afternoon. This is the time you need the most energy for our daily living. With the exception if someone works out late in the evening then you will eat carbs prior to workout. this will prevent the body from converting the unused carbs to fat stores. This does not apply if you are bulking, then eat the carbs throughout the day and evening. If you need the carbs to sleep you can get melotonin over the counter this can help keep the night carbs down IP: Logged |

Yeah, it's very hard to sleep without a good carb feed at bedtime. I think this is the main reason people lose weight on a low-carb diet! Think about it, you sleep 3 hours less every night when you don't eat evening carbs, this is 3 hours your burning extra calories. Throw in some Clen or ECA and reduce your sleep by another 2 hours and before you know it you've insomniac'd your way to a lean body. Sounds fun, doesn't it? ------------------ IP: Logged |

From some articles Dan Duchaine wrote awhile back, he stated that the body's insulin sensitivity decreases slightly at night. If one eats carbs then more insulin is secreted to take care of the carbs and there is a greater chance for fat deposition. I have never looked up any studies to verify this. The problem SEESEE talks about is correct. Carbs at night make sleep easier due to the fact that carbs increase the movement of tryptophan across the Blood Brain Barrier where it is converted to serotonin. Serotonin is a calming neurotransmitter and is low on a low carb diet. The level of norepinephrine tend to be higher on a low carb diet, which is the reason for the irritability and sleep disturbances. IP: Logged |

If you're an ectomorph, then the little fat you might gain will spare protein from being burned, and will most likely end up being burned anyway. Depends on your metabolism. As far as carbs helping you sleep, I always thought that it was because the carbs release insulin, insulin clears your blood of glucose, leaving you tired? IP: Logged |
