My biggest advice cut back on the salt intake about 1 to 1 1/2 weeks pre contest. Start cutting back on H2O intake 3-4 days pre contest.

A very mild dir. such as a dyazide will help. Most doctors will prescibe them to women who hold water prior to having their periods. It helps to relieve the pain of bloating. 1-2 a day for the last 3 days should do the job. It is probably the safest dir. out there.

I always cut back on salt prior to contest and that doesn't seem to work either.I start to dehydrate about 1 week out with 2l of water until the day before when I drink only 750ml then only sips on the day.

I use the 'drowning' approach to dehydrate. On the Sunday before the show I start drinking AS MUCH water as I can,6-7 litres a day until Thursday evening. I cut out sodium on the Thursday morning. I drink just enough water from Thursday evening to get my creatine, glutamine, herbal diuretics and B6 down my gullet, plus a bit extra. I also start taking nolvadex 20mg ED from about 5-6 weeks out. Of course this is all happening on a background of Carb depletion/loading. Best to do a trial run before contest day to see, but this works perfectly for me.

Good luck

Forgot to mention the Slow K, 500mg 3 times a day from Thursday.

Extra - you're cutting back your water too early. It only takes the body about 48 hours to figure out what's going on and start to remedy the problem. So, you are actually causing your body to hold water by dehydrating for 5 or 6 days. Your body perceives an emergency after 2 or 3 days, depending on the individual and starts to hold on to the water at that point. Just use the 48 hour window as a guideline when making changes. You can only fool the body for about that long.

Yeah, what Iron Chick said is 100%. And by drinking HUGELY excessive amounts of water for 4-5 days before you cut your water back, your kidneys can be tricked into a 'reverse crisis'. This is when they detect too much water and start going crazy trying to pump it out as fast as they can. Because the kidneys are slow to respond to changes in water intake, they continue to pump the water out for 24-36 hours after you cut your water back (around Thursday). This gets you a lot drier than you can get by merely cutting the water back for 2 days. But definitely DON'T cut the water intake too early, or you WILL retain fluid.
