No, not too much flax. But you need to turn your carb intake up-side down. In other words eat all your starchy carbs in your first 3 meals, then nothing but protein and some fibrous veggies for the end of the day. Also you might consider cutting the bedtime protein. It's a good thing to eat on a mass gain diet, but if you're trying to cut bodyfat, any carbs OR protein taken at bedtime that you don't use is likely to store as fat, and you don't burn much energy when you're sleeping. I agree with MS eat the carbs earlier in the day. Also, up the Flax!! It is better to use Liquid Flax oil. I really suggest getting two tablespoons a day of it. Try one in the morning and another before dinner. This will bump up the flax to around 22 grams. Believe it or not, this oil will help build muscle and loss fat. IP: Logged |

Sounds better Decadon. Just be careful with the spaghetti. It is one of the easiest 'complex' carbs to over eat, and it can leave some people feeling hungry too soon after eating. You also could stand to increase your vegetable intake so you don't get constipated. This is also another good reason to eat whole grains whenever possible on a diet. Spaghetti has very little fibre compared to whole grains. If you can't or don't want to eat more veggies or grains then consider taking a fibre supplement to keep things moving. And good luck. Those last few pounds can be tough! IP: Logged |

Don't you require that last bit of protein before bed to allow the muscle to heal, the are healing when you are sleeping and with that protein available they are able to build are they not? IP: Logged |

that is what I thought s.....as for the spaghetti...I was eating left overs....I split 3/4 of a plate from a restaurant...and ate it over three meals....I normally don't eat that much spaghetti..i like grits though..usually get about 31g of carbs in the morning from them...you are definitely right about the veggies...I am going to get a head of lettuce, some cucumbers, and a lot of broccoli...I think that is my problem...i look bloated a bit...I think it is because I am backed up with shit...haha...but it is true..I might pick up some metamucil fiber wafers today...thanks..anyone else...are there any other foods that you guys eat to stay on the straight and narrow with the diet....I also drink about a gallon of water a day....some times I slip in a diet soda too...maybe one a day...is that hurting me... Yes S and Decadon. Protein is important for building muscle, and on a bulking diet I would reccommend it at bedtime and throughout the night if you can be bothered. But there comes a time when you have to choose between building muscle and losing fat, and it sounds like Decadon has reached this stage. If you are on a calorie (especially carb) restricted diet then bedtime protein can have adverse effects. First it can raise insulin levels, which inhibits that nice GH pulse you would otherwise get when you first fall asleep. Second is that ANY protein you're not using immediately (either to build muscle or for energy) will get converted to Carbs, and with that insulin you've just raised it is more likely to be stored as fat. The best bet is to avoid eating anything within 2 hours of bed. If you're really stressed about it you could take 5 grams of glutamine at bedtime and another 5 grams before your morning cardio. If you still feel you have to have protein before bed, then try to make it a 'slow-digest' protein such as casein or chicken. The other obvious option is to increase your cardio, but somehow I didn't think you would like that idea! ------------------ IP: Logged |

actually ms...I do forty five or thirty minutes of cardio that keeps my heart rate as close to 140 as possible...I do this between four and six times a week...the weights program is something I just started...I am using the poliquin principles and doing his german body composition workout...and I have to admit...I like to kick the shit out of my self with the weights....I have no problems gaining muscle and strength...but this was the most intense workout I have had in about two years....I agree there are crossroads you come to with muscle gain or fat loss...I am done with the crazy ego muscle and strength game...there used to be a time when it was cool to have people say you are big and strong as fuck...now I am more concerned with being healthy and getting the impossible dream of a six pack...my genetics are fucked(dad and bro are obese)...so it might not happen...but I am willing to try and stick to a good diet and workout regimen....the time has come...right now I am carry 225 on a 5'10" frame with about 15% bf...not shabby but i want better...thank you for all your help bros....more info and tips guys...this is great stuff you are giving me guys..keep it up!!!! If you want to get under 12% BF you're gonna have to cut out carbs after about 4 or 5 pm. Or if you work out later then have some carbs after your workout then thats it. Eat most of your carbs in the morning and then slowly decrease them throughout the day. ------------------ IP: Logged |

No Bruman. Go to bed on an empty stomach like you do when your parents send you to your room without dinner most nights. It's a strange thing, but the body seems very well adapted to fasting while it's asleep! IP: Logged |

I apologize Brumans2, and Decadon. My comment, when I re-read it, may have appeared a bit harsh. I only meant to take a good-natured jab at your age Brumans, not a personal attack. It was only after I read your comment and looked at some of the response to your posting that I realized why you were upset. Seems SOME people around here ARE picking on you for asking legitimate nutrition questions. If you like I will edit/delete my previous post about going to bed without dinner. But the message is the same, mainly that going to bed on an empty stomach can help with fat-loss, and the body is very well adapted to nightly fasting. It is not as catabolic as you might think. And I'm sorry for mucking up Decadon's post. No one needs this kind of nonsense when they're dieting! ------------------ IP: Logged |

Decadon, If you are going to eat lettuce make sure that it is romaine, not iceburg. Romaine is far more fiborous than iceburg, actually iceburg doesn't really have anything good at all if I'm not mistaken. I love brocoli and you can do a lot of stuff with it cooking wise. It is full of good vitamins and minerals. Another good veggie is spinach. Pretty fiborous and versitle to cook with. The key is not to cook the death out of your food. Steaming is a really option for most veggies. A good fiber suppliment that I have used before is Fibotan from Advocare. I used it in college and it really get's things moving in the right direction. Keep up the work. And if you guys need some recipes hit me up and I'll hook you up. IP: Logged |
