Chicken is better in terms of less saturated fats. But eating chicken alone can get very boring. When eating beef, get the lean cuts and trim any fat off that you may see. Also if your looking at these for protein source do not forget about fish as another alternative. Also any of the above can change depending on how it was cooked.

Thanks vitaman

The trouble with red meet is that it stays in the gut for so long, this, to me seems unhealthy. Maybe you could advise.

I don't get board of chicken or fish, which I forgot to mention. So the intake of these foods are no problem, I just have this thing with beef.
You allways here of beef not being as nutricious as chicken but I want to know if this is true.

Thanks for your advise.

The unhealthy part of red meat is the higher levels of saturated fats. If it does take a little longer to digest that should not be a problem as long as it was lean. If you have no problem with fish and poultry than stick with that. There are a lot of different ways to prepare them. I, once in a while, crave a good medium rare steak. I trim off any excess fat and enjoy. Like they say, everything in moderation.

I think when trying to gain size, the two basically will be the same (low fat kinds). One thing I like about beef is that it is usually (not always), a lot cheaper, which is a big factor to an always broke college student like myself.

Beef will stay in the GI longer if it is fatty beef, since fat reduces GI motility, this would be the same no matter the meat type, even fatty chicken. Beef fat is high in saturated fats, but high in stearic acid, which is not showing the problems of atherogenicity as say lauric acid (high in dairy). This is not to say that saturated fats don't still cause insulin resistance, bad prostanoid synthesis, and other health problems, but to lump all sat. fat sources in one is wrong. There is no problem with eating a big steak every once in a while, I would just stay away from the baked potatoes with it, and eat a salad with it instead.

Top round and Eye round steak have very similar nutrient profiles as chicken. I like to alternate between beef, chicken, and fish.

Just eat a balanced diet. You can eat both chicken and beef as long as you get them from a grocer who stocks them from farms where no antibiotics or steroids were used on the animals. The only thing you should avoid totally in eating is margerine, since it is devoid of any nutritional benefit and the trans fatty acids in margerine contribute more to unhealthy arteries than just about anything else on the planet. Saturated fats and cholesterols are not the bad guys that the media has played them out to be. They are required for hormone production and cell membrane health. So don't cut out all of them. I know this flies in the face of what the media says, but take one look at the U.S....we're not so healthy overall. As long as you are excersing and eating moderate amounts of a variety of foods (and avoiding margerine totally), then you'll be okay.
