This should probably go on a different board, but it talks about diet stuff so I will put it here. Today I was at the gym and this guy on the treadmill started asking me questions on how I work out. After this he told me that he was on the Atkins Diet, and I told him that I had been doing a CKD for the last 4 months. Anyways, He started to tell me some of the foods that he was eating, which was stuff like only broccoli, butter, etc... But the thing that Caught my attention was that he eats fruit for like 3 meals. So I asked him if he was still able to establish ketosis eating these foods. He didn't even know what Ketostix were. He told me yeah It usually takes me like 4 days to get into ketosis. I asked him how he knew this since he didn't even have ketostix (and a glucometer), and he told me "oh, I just sweat more". I almost started laughing but I held it back. I told him that I wouldn't be able to establish ketosis by eating any fruit, and that I had to have around a 80% fat to a 20% protein ratio. He's all, "why do you eat so much fat?" I told him that all the carbs in the fruit would prevent me from entering into ketosis. Anyways, This guy tried to tell me that there was no carbs in fruit and that I didn't know what I was talking about. I was like ...Uh...what the hell? are you serious? He was like you obviously do not know anything about nutrition. I told him that I was getting my degree in nutrition in 2 semesters (with a double major in food science). Then I told him that I was not the one who started asking the questions, and that he should watch what he says before getting pissed at others. I started to walk away and the jackass said, "Skinny little bastard" So all 185 pounds of me at 6% bodyfat grabbed this fat mother fucker (about 220lbs/30% bodyfat), pulled up my shirt and told him "When you can get ABS like this, then you can come and talk some shit." I then dragged this fat bastard outside and beat his ass!!! My friend who is a trainer at the gym told the guy not to come back and instead to go to another gym in town or else his membership would be revoked. Anyways, Maybe this shouldn't be posted here, but I have to let out some steam. Sorry for the long post. IP: Logged |

This is the most disconcerting story I've heard in some time. The fact that this guy has no clue about what he is doing (yet is willing to argue about it) is frustrating enough. The worst part of this whole mess, however, is that you assaulted this man. I have seen and heard so many similar cases that it makes me sick. WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH US? What is it about lifting weights and building muscles that brings out the asshole in so many of us? BMJ, I don't mean to single you out on this issue, but you are obviously an intelligent man. Does it really seem like a good idea to pummel some guy because he disagrees with you or looks at you funny? You tried to educate him, you backed up your statements, you told him about your level of expertise in this area, and then you beat the crap out of him. WHAT THE FUCK! WHO CARES WHAT HE THINKS! Let him reach ketosis with bags of sugar if he wants! IP: Logged |

despite what brandon says about morals, in my opinion, he deserved it. people like that should not be in a gym in the first place, i have had similar experiences but never once considered beating their ass'. anyway when it comes to people like them, you can't beat their ignorance. IP: Logged |

After having a day to think about this, I have to say I did a pretty stupid thing by kicking his ass. Don't get me wrong, he desrved it, and it sure as hell felt great (hehehe), but he could press charges on me if he wanted to, so I am pretty lucky so far as to this incident. Hopefully nothing else happens because I am trying to grow up a little bit (age 24), and I do not want to go getting in trouble when I have a lot going for me right now. Also, if i didn't know the employees at the gym like I do, I could have lost my membership. I only pay $54 a year. It is this kind of stuff that give us bad names, so I guess I owe everyone that workout an apology. Anyways, I do not really advocate this kind of behavior in the gym because the diadvantages outweigh the advantages if you get in trouble. IP: Logged |

I would not worry about it MR BMJ it sounds like the tossa got what he deserved. Suposing it was not you in the gym but some gulible kid who would have taken the advise as gospel truth. Then wondered why he felt like shit. Then it could have been a different story. If you have time can you explain the K diet I would like to here about it. Thanks POW ------------------ IP: Logged |

To get a good idea of a typical Keto diet (cyclic ketogenic diet to be more precise), go to the main page of elite fitness and click on George Spellwin's "Pheyltropic/Humulin R Stack"[sic], and this might give a better understanding. It might be easier and faster than waiting for me to explain things. Other books you could read are "Bodyopus" by Dan Duchaine, "The Cyclic Ketogenic Diet" by Lyle McDonald, and "The Anabolic Diet" by Mauro Dipasquale. Also, you have probably heard of Dr. Atkins "The Atkins Diet" (or whatever it is called now), but it is not a cyclic regimen. Anyways, hope this has helped some. IP: Logged |

Not that the guy might not have had it coming, but I do think we're above that sort of thing. In that situation, just remember, the guy's going to get exactly what he deserves - a lousy body. IP: Logged |

That guy sounds like a dickhead...there are alot of people who piss me off at the gym...I hope this doesnt offend anyone...here I go: people who only bench press, people who scream un-neccessarily (sometimesyou gotta grunt), guys who bring their cell-phones in with them, people who throw too much weight on and think they did it, but it was really their spotter who puts his fingers on the bar and lifting 14-25 pounds himself, and primma donnas (people who look like they spent hours getting dressed to work out). like I said, I dont mean to offend any of you out there, thats just the way I feel. ------------------ IP: Logged |
