I have just started the keto diet on monday. I have entered ketosis on tuesday, it was a moderate reading on the ketostik. Today's reading shows trace amounts. Does that mean I am coming out of ketosis? Here's what I have taken so far: Mon: 14g carbs, 145g fat, 199g protien Tue: 15g carbs, 152g fat, 201g protien **if I follow this pattern will i get the most of this diet? I weigh 185lbs now. I got about 15-20 lbs of fat to loose. I've finished a juice cycle of 8 weeks about 6 weeks ago, and I have put on alot of fat and i lost all the muscle from the cycle (my source moved away and i could not get any clomid, i know-stupid me). Besides I never had a flat stomach to begin with. I don't want to loose too much more muscle. How many lbs. is normal to loose per week? Any answers to these questions and any advice about this in general would be greatly appreciated, Thanks,, IP: Logged |

The first thing I would tell you is not to worry about the level of the ketostix. If you are drinking alot of water, and you should be, the water flushes some of the ketones out of your blood. This is not a bad thing, since your body needs to make more with low carbs. Ketones in your blood are a signal that fat is being burned for energy, the whole purpose of the diet. For the diet, I try to keep my carbs as closes to zero as possible monday through friday. Also, you are either not eating enough fat in your diet, or you are eating too much protein. Chooses your protein sources first and then use whole fats to even the levels. Fat to protein ratio should be at least 1.5 to 1. For loosing muscle, be sure you add a 30-48 hour carb up on the weekend. This restores muscle glycogen, as well as allowing you to train heavy monday and tuesday. Every week, I aim for 1.5 to 2 lbs a week for fat loss. Anything more than that will be muscle loss. By the way dont live by the scale. After the carb up, I will gain anywhere from 8-10 lbs. All water and glycogen that is gone by wednesday morning. Do a search for Lyle Mcdonald's faq on the CKD. I have followed his recommendations and have lost over 70 pounds, and still kept alot of muscle. Sorry for the long post IP: Logged |
