I made a protein shake today with two table spoons of olive oil and two table spoons of MCT oil...and 1.5 scoops of protein... 42 grams of fat X 9 calories= 378 fat calories 33 grams of pro X 4 calories= 132 protein calories and only 3 grams of carbs...and it tasted good...no shit......give it a try..or give it a critique IP: Logged |

You really don't want to use MCT oil if you're on the ketogenic diet. It bypasses the mechanisms you are creating. What does that mean? By eating high fat and protein foods such as meat and cheese, you're setting your body up to burn long chain fatty acids. Like the fat on your ass and gut. They too are long chain. If your body starts using MCTs, you are changing your body's preferred fatty acid profile. Good luck. "The world needs more prostitutes!" - Jimmy Smits IP: Logged |

RaginAsian is partially right, what I think he is trying to say is that the MTC's will be used preferentially (sp) over other types of fat (body fat and others) because of their short fatty acid chains. So if fat burning is your goal, I'd recoment putting some flax or slafflower oil in instead of MTC's both have the best fats, (omega 3's and 6's), flax is better though because of the higher ratio of omega 3's. Pman is also partially correct. Yes, MCTs are used more preferentially by the body than animal long chains (bf on you and meat) because they are easier to break down. When you're on the keto diet, you actually never fully leave this fat burning state. On the weekend when you carb load, your body is in a duel-fuel state, burning fat and storing carbs. So it isn't that necessary to cut down on fat (on weekends). What using MCTs is similar to is taking in carbs during the week. Your body can't burn long chains as efficiently if it's also seeing small ones. It might not snap you out of ketosis, but you might start using protein as a fuel source. This ain't no good. Avoid the MCTs, unless you're a rebel with a hook hand and peg legs. Flax oil was a good suggestion, and a healthy one. I like canola oil. It makes my hair shine! IP: Logged |
