I am totally confused on this way of eating. I can deal with no complex carbs and simple carbs are simple to do. But my concerns are with the fibrous carbs. A carb is a carb. When it comes to veggies they have small amounts of carbs but will they keep you out of Ketosis? IP: Logged |

They don't for me... I eat Walnuts, peanuts, peanut butter, celery, lettuce, broccoli, cauliflower, a lot of macadamias, filberts, spinach...etc. They don't kick me out of ketosis. Pubert IP: Logged |

It depends on the number of carbs contained in the veggies. Celery, coliflower, spinich, all have very low carb counts. Just make sure that it all adds up to 30g of carbs or less per day. However, there is room for experimentation here. See just how many carbs you can take in per day and still remain in ketosis. Find a baseline (30g/day) and up it by about 5g/day until you are out of ketosis and then you will know your personal limit of carbs/day on a ketogenic diet. Hopes this helps. IP: Logged |

Unless I'm taking alpha lipoic acid, I can't get into ketosis at all ... no matter what. But when I do take ALA (300 MG 3X day w/ meals), I can eat all the vegetables and nuts I want (except peanuts, carrots, and corn, and peas). Plus, if I drink a glass of dry red wine at night, my blood sugar the next morning (as indicated by my glucometer) is even lower than usual and fat burning seems even more pronounced. IP: Logged |

Sounds like you know what you have to do to get into ketosis. Just make sure you have alot of alphalipoic acid aroud. You might what to check your protein to fat ratio, because the body can and does make glucose from protein. The ratio should be 1:1, fat to protein. IP: Logged |

Well, I have been on the diet for the past 2 months...I have not been able to lose any weight (started at 200, still 200), but I've gone from a 36" pant to a 33" pant, not to mention I've finally have the seperation between my pecs...I still have a ways to go (15% still, probably started at 20%). I start eating carbs on Fri and end Sat night. On Sun and Monday I try and keep my ratio at 1.5 grams fat to 1 gram protein. I can eat roughly 50 carbs a day and stay in ketosis (I upped my carbs starting from 20 a day till I found out where I get bumped out). I am usually back into ketosis by Monday afternoon without ALA or wine, but I am definitely going to look into that! I do back on Sunday (deads) and legs on Monday...that usually does it for me. Thickness, Grams of fiber do not need to be counted when looking at grams of carbs in food. Example, if a handful of peanuts has 7 carbs and 3 of the are fiber, you are really only eating the 4 carbs. Fiber is not used by the body, it's mostly an aid for cleaning the GI tract. IP: Logged |
