I have been reading the board for the past couple of days and hearing the way you all talk, feel that I am way over my head BUT, I really want to start lifting weights and gaining muscle. SO here it goes. Before married life I did the stair master several times a day. Starved myself and got really skinny. Which is what I thought was needed. Now after 3 children I desperatly need to lose weight but do not want to do it the wrong way this time. I have been reading muscle mags and trying to sort though all the information on this board (at least what I can understand) Hopefully after getting to know you all I can get some great info. I got the fact that I need to eat to lose weight and gain muscle and have been changing my diet. Couple of questions though: Because of the kids I really don't have the chance to exersice/lift until around 8:00 pm and was told by someone who doesn't even consistently exercise that I shouldn't exercise before bed time ???? T/F Because of my high body fat, I really don't want to take a lot of supplements (feel I should lose some of the fat first) I don't seem to be making much headway in the weight loss. Help!? Go buy the book "dr. atkins new diet revolution" my mom lost like 60 or 70 pounds alone from following it very strict and she NEVER WORKED OUT.... high fat/protein/ VERY low carb please look into this if you are serious. best of luck ------------------ ==JeTTsTreaM IP: Logged |

Thanks for the advice/info Jettstream. I actually have the book - did it and lost 12 lbs in 10 days when I did it. The problem is I felt like absolute crap when I did his program. It wasn't hard to follow the plan, just felt lousy. I was hoping for a solution that I could do for long term with less fat amounts. But you are right, once the weight is gone I will feel better. Motivation is not hard for me, I gear myself up pretty well. Just need to stay focused. IP: Logged |

Hi, Low carb, not to high fat and lots of protein is the way to go. Don't forget that the first weight you lose on a low carb diet is all fluid... try to eat less than 100 gram of carb a day.. this will give you all the energy you need. Than at least 1.5 to 2 grams of protein per kg of bodyweight (1 gram per pound) and the rest of the calories from fat (flax, fishoil and MCT. These will not hurt you)Calculate how much calories you need per day. THIS WILL TAKE SOME TIME TO FIGURE OUT It can take a few months before you got the numbers right.. Then do some (not much) cardio and start to train with weights. good luck.. Dutch IP: Logged |

Hey Jettstream - Thanks. I started Atkins again yesterday and will stick with it. After I started reading the book again and taking some of Dutch's advice and not going too high on the fat, have felt great yesterday and all day today. I will keep you posted. Curious, have you done the Atkins diet and if so what was your fat loss? IP: Logged |

Queen, I did just the same.. Feel great, lots of energy and losing weight. These types of fat are not harmfull, so don't worry if people tell you it is not healthy to eat all that fat.. :-) Good luck, succes and keep us informed Dutch IP: Logged |
