I just started this ketogenic diet today and im already going nuts. I cant possibly eat enough food to keep my calories up to where they should be. With only 30 carbs a day leeway i dont have any room to breathe. Can anyone suggest a good ratio of protien carbs and fat. I am trying to do this but its just alot harder then i thought to keep the calories up to an even somewhat normal level without any carbs. How bout a good site for info on this??? Anyone have any advice im lost here.. IP: Logged |

hang in there man--it is a beeotch 1st off get bodyopus if you don't already have it. I'll rattle off some hints I can remember if you don't have already 1) You can speed into ketosis with vanadal sulfate an chromium. Cinnimin (sp?) without sugar! and brewers yeast (yuch) can also be used. Vanadal helped me get into ketosis quicker. I did DiPasquales anabolic diet and didn't have the benefit of van before--it really helps! 2) Duchaine reccomoends 70% cals from fat at least until wed (assuming you get into ketosis tues morinng) to be safe then 60/40 protien is ok. Since it is a "high fat" diet it probably shouldn't go much below that. Otherwise your're not doing it right. Steak but don't put anything on it--I use some HIGH FAT ranch dressing to dip--make sure it only has 1 or 2 carbs/serving monterey jack cheese 0-1 carb per serv. tuna with ranch and mayo is another one. when i did keto with my roomie a few years back we had a "keto-pizza" melted cheese, sausage, and peperoni cooked in a buttered pan. All this shit sounds sick but there aren't a whole lot of options. I always use a E/C/A stack--helps you feel better but make sure you eat enough fat! If you can't stomach that many meat products Plus you should supplement with these to make sure that you get enough mono and polyunsaturated fats--meat has all the naughty ones (which actually aren't that bad as long as you don't have carbs present) I'm no expert but that is what I can remember off my head from those days... What's ketosis? Do you think this diet will work for me if I don't eat carbs anyway....I would probably gain weight right? IP: Logged |

What do you mean by "don't eat carbs anyway". Carbo-restricted is a lot different. To get an idea of what you'd eat (ratios) go to http://www.detn8.org/bb/docs/ and look at the bodyopus spreadsheet. 70% fat and 30% protein. Ketosis occurs when the bloodsugar drops below a certain level (forget exact #) and starts to use ketones for fuel instead. Get a book on this kind of diet before you consider it--it is well worth the 15 to $20 to make sure you do it right. There are some good reccomended sources in other threads here. I personally think the "atkins diet" book is garbage compared to the reading of the "bodybuilder" orientated books by others. Most others are cyclical and allow you to grow muscle with carb-loading on the weekends. IP: Logged |

Sorry but I have to side with danni, if your going to go all 'happy larry' with the fat on the ketogenic diet, I wouldn't touch carbs with a shitty stick. If for some reason (and I can't think why apart from willpower) you need carbs, make sure you eat them plenty of hours either before or after your high fat intake. IP: Logged |
