>Is what I want to get but I think I've been skimping on the Carbs and Fat too much. >I currently weigh 185 lbs, with 12% body fat. >Question: should I hit the MASS POWDERS (ie MEGA MASS 2000) OR just stick to low carb/fat Protein powders (ie PROMAX or WHEY)? ------------------

eat more calories than you burn, and you gain fat.. If you want to gain muscle, eat 1 gram/ pound of BW of protein, and eat carbs/fat for the rest of your calories.. then increase/decrease your carb/fat calories based on your progress after a few weeks.

Cool, But what I'm getting at IS: Are high calorie mass builders worth a try OR should I stick to the Low-cal Protein shakes for supplementation? ------------------

bleh, eat some chicken. weight gainers will catch up to you later on. maybe try some creatine, but if you don't want fat you gotta do cardio. ------------------

for me ,they are way to high in carbs, If I take them I gain a lot of fat.. You dont HAVE to do cardio to avoid getting fat.. you can eat less calories, its much easier than doing cardio in my opinion.. You have to figure out how manyt calories a day you need to maintain your bodyweight.. if you can take a lot, then maybe the so called "mass gainers" are what you need.

no don't take "mass gainers" wheat bread, and butter. something that has helped me alot is fresh baked bread, you can bring it around and munch on it whenever. 200g of protein is fine, but you need to up the COMPLEX CARBS. "mass builders" are sugar you don't want that. ------------------

Pants, I'm not saying this would work for you, and others might say it's overkill. I currently weigh just under 180 at 8.5% bodyfat. About 6 months ago, I weighed around 170 with a bodyfat percentage of around 11. This was with 5 years of lifting experience, not really very consistent though. Other than sticking with my program, my only changes for that extra muscle were the following. I began eating a minimum of 1.5 grams of protein per pound of bodyweight. Upped my flax from 1 tablespoon a day (sometimes I'd skip) to 2-3. The only changes to carbs were postworkout, from my usual 60 grams to 100, a bit more on a brutal leg day. I did not gain any fat. My body just became harder, leaner, and stronger. My overall bodyweight went up about 8 lbs, and if anything, I lost a little bit of fat. During this period, I did go through a 5 week CKD. Now, to many here, 8 lbs is no big deal, but to me, it was a godsend. I'm only 5 foot 8, so it is noticeable on me. I keep trying to convince others to add extra calories from efa's and protein. The extra carbs in my opinion should be for postworkout only, and little to none before bed.

Hmmmm. It really depends on what kind of bodytype you have. Ultimately you need carbs to put on muscle. You only need enough protein to repair/replace damaged muscle plus a bit to gain some mass. Any excess protein will be converted to carbs anyway, it's just more expensive and less efficient than eating the carbs to begin with. If you're a true 'hard-gainer' then all calories are good. Don't skimp on the carbs, and get a moderate amount of fat. I agree 100% you're better to get these calories from REAL foods, especially complex carbs and unsat fats, NOT weight gainers. If you're a classic endomorph (easy gainer, especially fat) then you should try to limit carbs and fats, especially simple and processed carbs, saturated fats.

Cheers guys....... The reson I was thinking of radically changing my diet is cos I've been consuming so little of Carbs/Fat and always kept my protein high...... Now that I've reached a plateau in training I thought of carbing up to beef up so to speak. I reckon I'll put on some fat, but nothing compared to the muscle I'll gain (aiming for 8-10 lbs) in the 6 weeks of H.I.T. Then I figure going on a cutting training cycle coming up to summer to get rid of the unwanted adipose! What do we think? P.S: Not juicing by the way: only clen in cutting cycle. ------------------ |
