Ok I have seen a couple of posts on this subject and I have a question. At what point in your lifting career do you start one or the other? I have read cut your calories and I have read eat alot of food. What do you do first? Do you still lift the same? If so do you still gain muscle? Or when you cut do you eat just enough to maintain? Do I need to start this now? Im about 19%bf and I want to lose fat. Thanks RD

with bulking what youre trying to do is eat everything in site in order to achieve a positive caloric balance thus muscle growth. Many say that if you aint a seasoned lifter (newbie) doing a (40-30-30) program can help you lose fat and gain muscle at the same time, yet as you become more and more experienced this becomes harder to do. By cutting they usually cut back the carbs to no higher than about 50. A key to this idea is no carbs after 6pm or sometime early. Follow Body-For-Life if you are still somewhat new to the scene. It worked for me. The book can be found at amazon.com. Oh yeah....to bulk, eat everything in site. Definetely follow bfl book...it will give you results trust me.

Yeah, what do you mean by saying that the body for life diet is for steroid users?

I'm not endorsing Body for Life for everyone, but it's definitely not for roiders. That diet is fairly low in calories and carbo's. It's usually meant for someone who want to get into shape and cut some fat. The food program is as basic as 6 small meals per day. That's to increase your metabolic rate. Generally, people using AS especially if they're bulking are eating as much as possible so the steroids can convert food etc to muscle. If you were on roids you would probably not restrict your diet that much unless you were in a cutting cycle. Personally, I've done the 12 week program and had good results. I still eat 6 meals a day on most days. It's just a good habit to get into. Even though I'm bulking right now, so the meals are not all small. Assuming you are a man, 19% body fat is a little high depending on your age. If I were you I would try to cut up, by doing resistance training and intense cardio 4 - 5 days per week. It's a personal choice for you to decide when to start bulking. When you've reach you've reach your body fat % goal, and weight goal. Then, it's time to start something new, like perhaps, bulking. Most BB's bulk in the winter and cut in the spring and try to maintain through the summer. Serious body builders only shred for competitions, otherwise they're trying to get bigger and bigger. Once you've learned how to cut effectively, you can always cut. It's always more difficult to bulk, because it require getting stronger, developing bulking weight training programs, and eating around the clock, which is quite expensive and time consuming. Hope this helps, good luck!

Ok when you are cutting are you still lifting? If so where does the 100 grams of carbs come in after you workout? do you still eat carbs after you workout? or do you not lift while you are cutting? Im confused..... |
