I've always downed a dozen raw egg whites every day during my cycles (6 morning and 6 nighttime). I figured that the raw egg white was most bio-available in its raw form (also, it's pretty easy and no mess with cooking). However, today I heard that this is not good to do b/c of the risk of bacteria. Can I get salmonela (sp?) from eating uncooked FRESH eggs? Has anyone had any experiences with this? Thanks bros...T | ||

Yes, you can get salmonela poisioning from consuming raw egg whites. In fact, the chances are quite good that you will. Salmonela, however, doesn't affect adults in the same manner it does children and elderly individuals. Salmonela is rarely ever detrimental to a healthy adult. This is not to say that it isn't uncomfortable because it will cause stomach cramping, nausea, and diarrhea. Occastionally, those symptoms will be quite severe, but rarely will it ever cause you to be so sick that you cannot function properly. BTW, I've been eating raw egg whites for around 6 years or so, and have gotten salmonela many times, but it has never made me so sick that I couldn't function normally. The risks are very much overrated. -TG |
