Ive been dieting for the last 10 weeks, every five weeks i take a body composition test . After the first five weeks i lost 6lbs fat an gained 0.5 lbs muscle , but after the second five weeks i lost 2 lbs fat and 4 lbs muscle. How can i continue to lose fat without sacrificing anymore muscle ? (my protein content is already throught the roof). Should i cut back on cardio ( i do 4 sessions of interval training per week)

Try increasing caloric intake across all macronutrients by 10% and keep the cardio constant.

How lean are you now? It's possible you're reaching the dieters point of diminishing returns where muscle loss becomes inevitable without AS. I agree you should increase your cals, but also try to increase your weights at the gym. FORCE your body to retain that muscle by making every fiber indispensible. Also make sure your post workout nutrition is perfect.

My bodyfat is 8% . Does it work to increase fat intake so my body doesn't need to hold onto fat as it is getting enough from my diet, or should i mass gain for say eight weeks and then go back to fat loss to confuse my body , however im worried ill put back on all the fat ive lost

I started use an ECA stack about two weeks ago - only taking it before cardio

EC is suppose to help u preserve more mass while dieting and excercise versus just dieting and excercise do u notice this,or have u lost more muscle since u started eca [This message has been edited by chillin408 (edited January 20, 2001).]

Read the post on ECA and muscle loss. ECA increases cortisol therefore burns muscle. (according to the post) Unless you're planning to compete soon, I wouldn't want to get your body fat any lower. Anything lower than 8% almost is very difficult to gain muscle. You need some fat to build muscle. Nobody wants to put on fat, but that's why we have to bulk and cut so we can get bigger muscles before we cut. Have you considered glutamine peptides, or L-gluatime, to help preserve your muscle? Also, you may need to have shorter cardio sessions, and possibly cut them back to 3 days. If your cardio sessions are 30 minutes or less you're probably okay. If they're longer do fewer sessions. And go nuts with weight training.

i did read that post , in fact i wrote it, which is what lead me to look into ECA and catabolism. In the first five weeks i wasnt using any thermogenics (13% - 9% bodyfat) and during the second five weeks i was (9% - 8% ). I realise that its alot harder to lose fat below 10%, but nonetheless the muscle loss shouldnt have been that great.

Yes, ECA can raise cortisol, but you have to keep dieting in perspective. You're gonna lose some muscle (without AS) when you get down to low %bf. This is because your body gets more and more reluctant to burn it's precious stores of fat, and would rather burn muscle for fuel. ECA is used PRIMARILY because it helps your body to mobilize fat as a fuel source instead of muscle. So in the BIG picture, ECAs effect on cortisol is more than balanced by it's ability to force your body to burn fat. When your trying to get ripped it's always a trade-off between maximizing fat loss/minimizing catabolism. |
