how many grams of protien can the body digest at one time? i heard 25-30 but lately i have heard up to 45? anyone know for sure?

That's a rumor. You're body can easily assimilate large amounts of protein with adequate amounts of time, especially after a workout. I'm sure there is a certain amount of protein the body can digest in a certain amount of time, but eventually it will be broken down. Also, the type of protein ingested will have a great effect on how fast your digestive systym will break it down. Proteins like whey will have a greater digestion rate than say whole proteins like chicken and beef. Eventually, all the protein will get digested with time. As to how much will be converted to glucose, I do not know, to a degree I don't think much will. As to how much to have, this is a great debate. Some argue that the body will only use around 1.0 grams of protein per of bodyweight, and much higher than this will yield to a degree of the body breaking it down o glucose (gluconeogenesis). I should also note that many people, especially bodybuilders, will use up to 2 grams of protein per pound of bodyweight and receive greater results. One thing people should not do is ignore the real life results of others people. There have been too many people with positive results that have taken higher than the usual 1.0 grams of protein. But back to the question at hand, to my awareness, there is no chart for the digestion rates of protein. Simply put, there is not a GI for protein, unless it is new and I have not heard about it. Common sense will tell you that the body can only assimilate a certain amount of protein in a single day, but if given the proper break from eating (ie over night sleep), most of the protein should be digested.

about how much protien is in a averags size chicken breast(im cooking it on the forman grill) might be a stupid question but just wondering so i can have a rough idea of how much protien i eat a day

depends what time you train. If at night then yes, but you wouldn't want to wake up on purpose and have one. Another issue is if you are cutting then answer is no, but if bulking then go for it, and maybe add a chicken wing with it.. lol

i dont know,but check this out how weider publications contradict themselves,a few years back in muscle and fitness mag i think it was a janurary issue where they tell the basics about BB and start up program stuff,it said u can only digest 40-50 grams every 3 hours,then a few monhts ago in flex there was a question article,and it was called protein limits-dont belive it,and the writer said that their is no limit, and that high protein intakes in one meal can create seriuos anabolizim,something like that,but he said if u want to pig out on protein and eat like 100 + plus in a meal its all good

i take a prowtien powder that is 60 g of protein plus 8 grams from 8 oz of milk ... so if your body couldn;t digest it i dont; think they woudl of made it

Just because you stuff 68g of processed, most likely denatured protein down your throat without throwing it up, doesn't mean it's been absorbed, or even digested. It can be digested and absorbed, or it can sit in your colon, contributing to GI problems. Not to mention that if you do end up somehow digesting all of it [unlikely without enzyme supplementation], a big chunk will get turned into glucose. By chronically overeating on protein, your sensitivity to it will drop, just like the insulin sensitivity of carb adicts drops. Like our portley friends who need more and more carbs to secrete insulin, you will need more and more protein to support anabolism. You will need large amounts to just maintain muscle, since protein-disposal enzymes will be secreted by your body to get rid of the exess protein, lest it become toxic. I you don't keep stuffing protein into yourself, those enzymes will do their nasty work on existing amino acids i.e. lean tissue in the absence of dietary aminos i.e. protein. The more protein you OVEReat, the more your body will try to subdue the posible threat of toxicity. Another words, the more you eat the more you need to maintain, let along gain muscle.
See the logic behind supplement companies including FAR too much protein-per-serving in their products?
Sure, 50g of protein, with only 20g carbs and no fat, may be good for a pro who weighs 300lbs in the offseason, takes more drugs than you can shake a needle at, and actually absorbs that much [p.s., even Yates said he had to use enzymes and probiotics to eat 1.5g protein per lb].
But are such products actually healthy, or even condusive to muscle growth for you and me?
