I am apparently a hopeless bastard. I have done the Barry Sears protein diet twice. The first time I lost 60lbs in 8 months, the second time I lost 40lbs in 4 months. As you may have gathered I am back up to my original shank of 250lbs(I'm happy at 200). My question is, what the hell, I have gained 30 lbs in the last 2-1/2 months alone. I cannot live on the diet forever, but if I go off it I baloon up like a ballpark frank in a microwave! Do I have a tyroid prob or something? Is that kind of weight gain at all normal? I have worn pants ranging from 32's to 38's in the last 8 months. It's not water weight either, again I say"stop the insanity" HELP ME!!!!
p.s. I'm 6'2" Male

1st of all I love the Name!!

2nd the only way to lose fat and KEEP it off is to continue your eating habits. the fact that you've lost weight before IS GOOD, this means that you mentally know it can be done.

do a search for "calorie formula" figure out how many calories your supposed to eat in a day, and subtract about 200-500 calories. and eat accordingly.

use a 40, 30, 30 division of calories. carbs/protein/fat this is the healthiest, and will serve to continue to keep your weight off.

consuming little or no carbs is DUMB for long term weight reduction. your body's metabolism will slow way down. keep your carbohydrate consumption mainly "complex carbs" and maybe not consume any carbs past 8 p.m. etc.

ask me or others for help if you have more questions.

Thanx for the reply, however you have opened up yet another problem to me. Have I messed up my metabolism with this crap? If so, how the hell do I fix it? I'm not about do go on DNP or anything, but some sort of supplimentation would be nice.

you might wanna talk to a doctor about it.
no, DNP definetly isn't for you.
You need to lose the weight slowly and keep it off.

It's no big deal to go to your GP and request a full panel thyroid test. This will tell you definitively if your metabolism is in trouble. If you test low on thryoid then your Doc can give you thyroid supplements to boost it back to normal. This way you can also have your thyroid monitored to make sure you're not taking too much or too little. If your thyroid tests in the normal range, then your metabolism is fine and you need to look for other causes of your yo-yo weight fluctuations. It is likely that if you've been low-carb dieting for too long you will have some metabolic problems. But best to find out one way or the other, then go from there.
