over on the anabolic board there is a debate of whether or not drinking milk counts toward total water intake for the day. it makes sense because milk is about 96% water but seems kinda weird. that would mean basically anything you drink (juices etc.) would at leat partially count as water. i try to get 1 gallon of water/day but have to force my self to get a glass of water instead of milk to reach this. this also cuts down on my calories and protein can i just go ahead and drink the milk and count it as water?

Well, ideally you would drink water, and lots of it. But at worst drinking a gallon of milk is kinda like eating a 1/2 cup of milk powder and washing it down with a gallon of water. Same goes for fruit juices, etc. You could eat a cup of fruit concentrate, or dried fruit and wash it down with a gallon of water. But a better way to look at both of these choices is to recognize that you probably should be drinking more than a gallon of water each day. In other words, drink your gallon of milk and then another 2-4 quarts of water as well.

If I remember correctly, skim milk is around 65% water in 1 cup. So like MS said, just add extra water to compensate for the difference. At 65%, this means that there is around 2/3 cup of water in each 1 cup of milk. Therefore, you will need to add an extra 1/3 cup water to compensate for the loss.

All babies drink is milk, so you probably do get lots of water from milk.

But babies don't eat solids that need extra water to digest and metabolize them. When you ween a baby onto solids they need to start drinking more than just milk. But sure, if you got ALL you calories from milk then you wouldn't need extra fluids.
