Awhile back I went to the Drug store and looked for some digestive enzymes and had no idea what to look for. Then the pharmacist came up to me and asked me if I needed any help and I told him I was looking for a digestive enzyme,,, he looked kind of puzzled and showed me some stuff that people take if they have a hard time digesting milk or are lacto intolerant. Well I told him I didn't think that was what I was looking for, and I explained that I was buying it for working out and was going to be eating a lot. So he showed me this other stuff that I bought that is called{acidielphis?? or something can't remember right now} It is a rugby product. Well is this what I was looking for? And if it was not what am I looking for or what are some brands of digestive enzymes? thanks

The only supplement that I use for digesting protein is Aminogen. I take 1 capsule per 30 grams of protein. So I take one capsule with each solid food meal. You don't need to take it with protein powders, at least with the good quality powders. A good quality protein powder or MRP should have digestive enzymes already added in it. The only supplement companies that I know that put out Aminogen are Kaizen and Prolab.

I don't think Aminogen is what he's talking about. Aminogen has an enzyme or something in it similar to pineapples and it helps your body take up more of the protein than if you don't use it or pineapples. Acidophilus (sp?) is used to keep the "bugs" in your gut happy and yes that is what you should have bought so the salesperson actually helped you out! I use GNC's Mega Acidophilus. I just take one or two per day with a meal that includes milk. (the bacteria need that to feed on) Eating yogurt will also get the bacteria into you to help maintain your gut health. Wanna know the best part of using this?? No protein farts!! Also, your stomach won't give you grief with cramping or other bad stuff if you send some good bacteria (acidophilus) down to it once in a while. I think Muscle and Fitness had a big ol' article on probiotics earlier in the year.

Hey guys I really appreaciate the feed back thank you. And by the way litloak it is Acidophilus that I bought, thanks for explaining what it does with the bacteria, at least now I know why I'm taking it. And to Valdez I know, sometimes I do get a little impatient when there is not a response right away, but its just when you post on the more popular topics or discussions you usually get like 3 or 4 posts in a few minutes and you tend to forget that this does take time and people do have other lives, sorry guys.

What i suggest is tyhat you get a papain supplement(derived from papaya which helps digest protein very well. Also bromelain from pineapple is good for carbs. You can get othe dupps that conatin digestive enzymes your body naturally secreted but then your body downregulates it's own supply so best bet is just a papain supplement too help with the extra protein.

I know I'm way the heck too late jumping in on this topic but what the hey.

Nature's Sunshine makes great food enzymes. I agree with you guys recommendations. I take lipase, betaine, bromelain, papain in addition to a few others. I can tell a difference, and I wouldn't want to go without them for long.
