I've been doing a TKD diet now for just over 1 week and had no problem reaching ketosis. 20 minutes prior to training I am taking 50grams of maltodextrin. This kicks me out of ketosis for only about 4 hours. The question I have is should I take my maltodextrin drink prior to a cardio ONLY workout (35 min on the stationary bike) to prevent muscle breakdown? Or is it not necessary during cardio only? I also hear everywhere now that cardio is bad if youre trying to retain muscle? How does a Ketogenic diet affect the results from cardio? Does it decrease the loss of muscle since your body is already in fat burning mode?

Is that similar to The Anabolic diet where in you carb up some time of the week? If it is (which I am assuming) I am doing the same diet However I do not belive taking in carbs on a consitent basis especially before cardio the 1. reason is you want to be in KETOSIS THROUGHOUT your duration of cardio/lifting both etc. Second how do you know you get into ketosis rapidly? I am assuming you use ketostix like I do ( I have some trouble but I use an oral diabetic to help me move along. If you are checking once you are done with cardio there is a reason why it would show any type of ketone in your piss... because your liver is rapidly dumping them out of storage (bad for this type of diet) in favor of the carbs you have ingested. My suggestion would be to have one point during the week of the 'TKD' to have a carb spike (taking in as much as 1000-1500cal) I do it on a wednseday morning - right after I follow my typical diet until my legit carb load on the weekend - Hope this helps and if morre info is needed just reply...

Doesn't the middle-of-the-week spike cut the number of days you're in ketosis? Less days in ketosis=more days burning glucose=less muscle retention? |
