Metabolic Diet - Dr. Mauro Di Pasquale Anyone read it. I was interested in the Anabolic diet and from the description of the book it includes that and plus it was a newer release. If anyone has read it and would like to give me any thoughts on it I'd appreciate it. Thanks

OK, I just got the book. Had it sent priority mail, same price as UPS. I ordered Wednesday morning and have it today Friday and that is from the West Coast to the East Coast so I'm happy with their service. The book is a little smaller than the size of a textbook and it is hardback. 485 pages. Haven't read it yet but wouldn't be afaid to order from QFAC. Hope this helps. Peace

Is the book worth buying?
Cool Novice Posts: 35 |
It seems to be worth buying. It seems to be pretty detailed telling you how everything gets affected. Reads about like a text book. Does have a big appendix of foods that have no carbs and that will help. The diet seems to be a high fat diet but helps you trying to find the optimal amount of carbs for you. I haven't read a lot of it yet but I will say I don't feel ripped off especially since most diet books cost this much with less info and aren't hardback. Hope this helps any other questions I'll try to answer the best I can. Peace

Hey Bone, Did DiPasque (sp) just rehash his ideas from his Anabolic Diet or does he give any new ideas. After reading all the info on a web site (i think allprotraining.com) it seems he is just re-doing his anabolic diet but directed it towards a more mainstream audiance. Just curious. Take Care

I'm not sure as I don't have his book on the Anabolic diet. From what I read so far in this book it goes like this. Eat less than 30g of carbs a day for the first two weeks. Then adjust your carb intake to where you function best, it says most people operate around 100g. You can start at less than 30 and work your way up or at 100 and work your way down. Once you get your body adjusted to burning fat then during the weekend a 12 - 48hr period it's a free for all. Eat all you want of anything but keep notes because if you eat too much you'll gain weight. then start at 1800 calories a day during the week and see if you gain lose or maintain your weight and adjust to your goals. It does go farther in depth though describing the effects of insulin for example. The good and the bad types of fat and shows all the scientific findings for everything. If you've read the Anabolic diet let me know if this all sounds familiar or not. As a side note I started doing this Saturday and had trouble keeping awake until Monday as it felt like there was a weight attached to my head and I slept alot this weekend. Today I'm wide awake, eating more than ever before and I've lost 3 pounds so far. I can't believe I'm having such good results after eating so much. If anyone has anymore questions let me know. Peace

Bonecrusher, Does he have any meal examples? I'm interested in hearing more. I bought Bodyopus and Lyle McDonalds Ketogenic Diet Book, both were good books and worth the money. Then I bought Will Brinks downloadable book online, and it pretty much sucked. He believes in Flax Seed Oil and most supplements are a rip-off. Duh!!! Well anyway, tell me more if you would, or if anyone else has bought it. Oh yeah, almost forgot. During the regular low-carb week (100 gm) does he suggest spreading out the carbs throughout the day, or say 25 with breakfast and the remainder after training? ------------------ Born to love, trained to kill...Semper Fi [This message has been edited by baldbeefman (edited November 05, 2000).]

Yes he does post sample meals and get this, he shows sample menus from a 1000 calorie a day diet and up to a 4500 calorie a day diet. He also has an appendix with food listings and their carb ratings. So far I have lost around 5 pounds in a weeks time and it looks like more to me. Right now it is like not even being on a diet for me because I had pretty much cut all fat out of my diet over the years, I was always starving and could never loose any weight, so eating all this meat is like having ice cream for the first time. Also I did cheat a little and had some trick or treat candy and it put a couple pounds I lost back on and I didn't even eat very much and I also noticed that I was craving food all over again. If you change your diet to low-carb do get some Fibercon unless you like not having a bowel movement for a week. I also haven't lost any strength in my lifts so all is going well for me. If anyone else is doing a low carb diet post your results maybe we can get some comparisons. On another note I haven't been counting calories so far I've just been eating whenever I feel like it as long as it is low carb. As far as breaking up the carbs during the week he says it is all how you feel. If you can get by with 0 carbs and get tired on Wednesday then have some carbs and if that gets you through the week then your good. He basically says everyone is different and you have to find out what works best for you. I'll keep posting as long as everyone is interested or there are more questions. Peace

I suggest those who've tried a low card/ ketogenic diet and found it too hard should try it again. I think the best way to do a ketogenic diet is by cycling. It gets easier each time you do it and the fat/weight seems to come off quicker on the second, third, attempt. My first attempt, I tried the Atkins way and I couldn't get past the first week. I lost 6 lbs (mostly water weight). Second attempt, I followed the CKD diet and stuck with it for a month and lost 15 lbs. I stopped the diet because I was losing too much weight, not because it was hard. I experienced no decrease in strength, nor lack of energy until towards the end of the week before the carb up. I couldn't run to save my life. just my 2 cents ------------------

My main problem with the CKD is my workouts suck, I have no energy. Besides that it is way easier for me to stick with, mainly due to convenience. I can always get some kind of meat or chilli even if I'm out of pocket. When I did a strick high-carb diet where I weighed all my food and carried it around in a cooler, I had to eat it cold half the time (yuck). I don't think I'll ever go back to that again, even though it worked okay. I also noticed that I don't sweat much during cardio or taking eph stack. But when I add the carbs back in I sweat my ass off. I guess due to the low carbs having a diuretic effect. Anyway, the CKD is the only type diet my wife was able to stick with for any period of time, so that is amazing in itself. ------------------ [This message has been edited by baldbeefman (edited November 09, 2000).]

Does he suggest the ussual training split, lower-body Monday, upper Tuesday, and total-body on Friday? ------------------
Cool Novice Posts: 35 |
He suggests for workouts that you start at three times a week if you are a beginner and then split routine 4 days a week if you are a more advanced lifter. I have been taking my 30g of carbs about a half an hour before my workout and that seems to help. He says after the initial 2 weeks at low carbs that when you start doing high carb on the weekend that you'll usually store enough for energy throughout the week.

Well, I broke down and bought the book today. My wife will probably be pissed. That's a lot of money to pay for a book, I hope it's worth it. It can't be that much different from my Lyle McDonald Ketogenic Diet Book, but it should make for some good reading. I know he seems to be very scientific and knowledgeable in what material I have read of his. ------------------

I don't think you'll be disappointed but let me know what you think and how it compares to your other book because I may get it also.

What I like about Lyle McDonalds book is it has a section for contest prep with a day to day what to do leading up to the contest. For me the high-fat approach to dieting seems to be easier. I'm not so sure it is the healthiest though, ever time I eat bacon and eggs I think about my arteries hardening up. ------------------

O.K. I just got my book in. I would say if you're planning on competing, buy Lyle's book. I like The metabolic Diet book though. Lyle suggests doing aerobics the first day of low-carbs and working out half the body say Monday and the other half Tuesday (I hate this type of workout) to deplete your glycogen and establish ketosis, where Dr. Pasquale isn't as concerned about that as much as just results. Lyle also suggests a whole-body workout or possibly a lagging body part workout the day you begin your carb loading phase (bodyopus type schedule except not having to wake up every two hours during the night). Both books are very good though. Lyle's book is probably better for the competition bodybuilder, where Dr. Pasquale's book is probably better if you are going to try to make this a life style change for long term staying in shape goals. ------------------

Well I lost another 2 pounds so I'm 205 this morning. I hate to admit it but I went crazy on carbs last weekend. 2 large pizzas, half gallon of ice cream and a bag of chips ahoy. It's amazing I'm still losing weight. Anyway this weekend I think I'll be getting my carbs from bread and vegtables and maybe a few cookies. I did stay in the 1.5 - 2 pound a week range though. This isn't all that hard to stick to either. |
