i hate the taste of water and was needing some suggestions ona substitute for hydration. i have been using crystal light but i dont feel good about the artificial sweeteners. any suggestions? and i need something simple to make i dont want to spend lots of time making something. ------------------ | ||

if you hate drinking water, and dont have (alteast) the discipline to drink about 1 gallon a day then, how do you expect to get big; your muscles are mostly water and if your not drinking enough then you are robbing yourself of precious muscle growth, think about it. | ||

So sorry Ubermass. There really is NO SUBSTITUTE for water. Maybe you could try holding your nose while you slam it down your throat. Anything that's dissolved in your water (this includes artificial sweeteners) will reduce the hydrating effect of the water. The only drinks you might try would be some of the herbal teas, without any sweeteners. Just make sure they don't have any caffeine in them. | ||

I'm on a herbal decaffe tea kick..but I love my artificial sweetners Add lemon to your water....bottled water..Poland Spring Water is my favorite kind... or just get a big cup and fill it every hour and chug it real fast....pump yourself up to do it every hour and you'll be fine sugar.....thats what I do with my extreme protein drink thats straight whey before I go to sleep...chug it!! | ||

If you don't like plain water, then just drink a gallon of sugar free drinks, like Crystal Light, it's really not much different. I'm sure I will get ragged by those who think that the artificial colors or sweeteners are not good for you, but they tend to forget the HUGE number of chemicals that naturally occur in foods, that have no nutritional value...and guess what your body deals with them very easily. The whole idea of drinking 8 glasses of 8oz of water is mainly for hydration purposes and does not matter if it is from Coke or water, the health organizations simply know that water has no calories, while soft drinks are loaded down with calories. So sugar free drinks are essentially like water. | ||

I'm a bit stuck for words tonight. First of all, I have to say that suger PER SE is not bad for you. It all depends on the type of sugar and the reason or context that you're eating it. Second, I would like some input from those of you in the know about the osmolality of sugar-free drink. Cockdez1 says it doesn't matter if you drink water or sugar-free stuff. I thought (but I have no data at hand) that the sugar free stuff has solutes diluted in it that may dehydrate or load the kidneys similarly to sucrose. I would love to be told that I'm wrong so I can drink diet soda to my heart's content. But my kidneys tell me otherwise. Help? | ||

you need pure H20. the whole point to drinking a lot of water is to hydrate and to flush your system. it doesn't help to much if you drink an already saturated solution. 1. MS, the osmolality of sugar free drinks are less than the osmolality of the body, therefore fluids from intestines should move into the body. Consider drinks made to rapidly hydrate the body, such as Pedialyte, they contain coloring agents, minerals, and sugars, albeit in smaller concentration than the sugar content of regular soft drinks. These types of drinks are drinks are better than pure water in terms of rehydration (studies done in Cholera devastated areas validated this idea), since a small amount of glucose and sodium aids rehydration due to active uptake by glucose and sodium transporters in the intestines. | ||
