hey guys wsup? i've been taking Alpha Lipoic Acid 2 times daily, 50mg each time, half an hour before breakfast and lunch. I was wondering if this was enough.
And was also wondering if other people have had success with this, or if enhanced effects of something. Please post up results if exerienced ALA. thanks

is it 50 or 500mg? between 500 and 1000 mg a day,with carbs meal to blunt insulin..

I've had great results (i.e. eat more carbs, not get fat) using 200mg with carbs. On training days, I take 200mg ALA, along with vitamins E, C, and beta-carotene post-workout, with my dextrose/whey/glutamine shake. It seems that I can take a little bit more carbs, and also seem to get a better pump off them with the ALA - plus ALA is perfect post-workout since it is a potent antioxidant, especially when combined with the traditional antioxidants I mentioned above. ALA is in fact the only antioxidant that's both fat and water soluble. I've been told that in order to get antioxidant properties from ALA, all you need is 100mg, but for it to be a potent glucose disposal agent, 200mg is needed (when I was on CKD, I would take close to a gram per day during carbup and 500mg the day after). Right now, 200mg with my biggest carb meal seems to be helping me.

I agree. At least 200 mg, preferrable with the post workout meal is needed.

i was taking 50mg. not 500mg. This stuff is pretty darn expensive btw. So as an antioxidant 100mg is sufficient, but for carbs eat 200mg before each meal with carbs? Sounds good, there's a product by Twinlab called insulin mimicker i think, or insulin something. I was wondering if anyone had any success with it. each tab. has 100mg of ALA, it has chromium, and bunch of other stuff. Thing with me is i have to eat carbs, i can cut back a little, but if there's something that can help me utilize the carbs it would be great.

I thought ALA mimics insulin and causes your body to store carbs. How would this help you to lose fat? I have some ALA and will add it to my cutting program if it will help.

ALA does mimic insulin. This helps to lower your blood sugar more quickly. Since you can't get into fat-burning mode when your blood sugar is elevated ALA helps get your body into fat-burning more quickly after a carb meal. It's the same reason some people use insulin at the start of a CKD carb-depletion. The best way to use ALA with your cutting diet is to have 100-200mg with your last carb meal of the day, and maybe another 100mg first thing in the morning before doing cardio.
