Ok I said I was going to find an article describing the problems with eating too much protein in one of the bodybuilding magazines I have. however the article is so damn long it would take me all day to write it here. However there is an article on the Testosterone web site that does explain some of the points brought up by the magazine article. go to:
http://www.botlink.com/html/10maxim.html

Hopefully this article will explain to you the fallacy of falling into the protein trap of which I too am a victim.

Remember the supplement companies thrive on misinformation. If bodybuilder X who has a contract with supplement company Y tells you that he eats 500 or 600g of protein per day he has either been told to say that or he is on his way to a hospital bed. One example of the latter springs to mind "Mike Francious" the guy would eat 20 chicken breasts per day and what happened him? He ended up in hospital having to get a large part of his intestines removed.

I guess to some professional bodybuilders it is their way of explaining away why they are so big. However Dorian made a great comment about these maniacs who claim to eat 8,000 - 10,000 calories per day and 500 - 600 g of protein. He said these guy's must be over 7 feet tall or else they must have the digestive system of an elephant, and thats coming from one of the biggest bodybuilders of all time.

I have talked to some other professional bodybuilders and quite a few of them have told me the same thing that they don't really eat that much.

Draw your own conclusion.

thats some interesting info; the only part that confuses me is when you first drop all that protein, wont you lose the majority of your muscles? i guess your suppost to get it all back on your load cycle.

I thought the same thing at first but as long as you replace the protein with some carbs (not gram for gram) you will loose little or no muscle. However if you drop your protein and forget to up your carbs you will loose muscle faster than you could ever imagine.

One of the reasons why the bodybuilders who rely so heavily on protein and drugs, loose muscle extra fast, when they stop taking drugs is because they don't realise the effect that too much protein has on their bodies.

They don't realise as the article says that if you keep uping your protein it becomes a never ending cycle you increase your protein and you gain a little extra muscle you increase your protein again and you gain some more muscle, but eventually you reach a plateau. What do most of the pro's do to counteract this? they just increase the amount of drugs they are taken so that their muscles can hold even more protein. But when ever they stop taking the drugs there is nothing there to protect their muscles from literaly been canabolised by their bodies own protein desposal system.

That's my thought's anyway.
