E Mail security should be the concern of everyone that uses the internet- especially the people that use a board like this. at the very least get a hotmail or operamail account. people who use Aol, compuserve, etc type accounts are just asking for trouble. The optimal option of those who are lazy and yet worried about security is to get a hushmail account. For those of you that are computer literate- and willing to invest the time -use PGP- personally I am too lazy to figure it out right now. ------------------ IP: Logged |

well nothing is secure on the internet. if someone wanted to bad enough they could get into, or hack anything. if your concered with law monitoring this board or your email account. fuck it! you can't stop someone from doing it. no matter what you do....you make an action, they will make a re-action. anything you send over the net can be seen if someone has the write equipment. you only live once, so live it smart, and free! WELL THATS NOT EXACTLY TRUE THERE IS QUITE A BIT OF HEAVY ENCRYPTION SOFTWARE AVAILABLE- BUT NEEDLESS TO SAY EVEN IF THEY CAN HACK INTO THE SYSTEM GOOD LUCK BREAKING THE ENCRYPTION- THE POINT THAT I AM TRYING TO MAKE IS THAT YOU SHOULD STRIVE TO BE AS SAFE AS POSSIBLE- IS ANY SECURITY FAILSAFE? NO. BUT, IF WE LIVE BY YOUR RATIONAL, WE ARE NOT EVEN MAKING AN EFFORT TO STOP THE GOVERNMENT'S/ANYONE'S ATTEMPTS TO DESTROY OUR RIGHT TO PRIVACY. ------------------ IP: Logged |

I would agree with the security issue . the encrytion programs they do have out is pretty secure.. i have used pgp for about 3 months now. pretty easy to use . it takes about 15 minutes to install and learn how to use the darn thing but it is worth it. hush mail i rescently starting using, but is a hell of alot easier then pgp. the only drawback about hushmail , is if the person you are sending an email to does not have hush mail then it is not encrypted unless you use an external prog like pgp.. . SECURITY . you need it out here.. lots to worry about.. KEEP GROWING AND STAY BIG ! IP: Logged |

I used to work for the National Security Agency writing encryption algorithms(and now work as Director of Systems Security for a dotcom company). PGP is exactly what it means, Pretty Good Privacy. If you're using PGP to keep your kid brother or roommate from reading your e-mail, then kudos. If you're using it because you think its not easy to break, think again. PGP uses a simple alpha+prime form of encryption as such is relatively easy to break, and due to it's static nature, once broken the certificate should be thrown out and new public/private key should be obtained. PGP easy to break? Sure the algorithm is known, that is a strength because it is perr-reviewed. If you have a key length of 2048 bits or more, there is not enough computer power to break it in 50 years. Now, if the passphrase is weak or easily guessed then it is no stronger than that, but the algorithm is tight. Macrophage, you need to get up off your butt and learn PGP, my friend. Hehehe. There are tonnes of great resources at www.skuz.net click on privacy. They have tutorials for PGP, how to choose a password, and other great stuff. Be safe IP: Logged |
