Say goodbye to privacy, folks, and as long as you're flapping your gums, you might as well thank Mistral Security for taking it away. The Maryland company have recently developed an aerosol spray that makes unopened envelopes temporarily transparent so that the contents can be read. "You spray it on and it temporarily makes the envelope clear," claims Robert Schlegel, vice-president of Mistral. "It leaves an odour for 10 to 15 minutes, but there is no smudging of ink, no stain, no evidence at all. The envelope is transparent for a few minutes and you can respray it hundreds of times without leaving any stain." So far, the only people who can legally buy See-Through Spray - as the marketing geniuses have baptized it - are law enforcement and intelligence clients. There are currently no plans to offer the product to the general public. Simon Davies, director of Privacy International, tells the press that security forces probably won't stick to any kind of ethical standards dreamed up by their supervisors. "This is an opportunity for governments to side-step legislation on mail interception and opening. It is an ethically questionable product." So take yer old pal Jerky's advice if you plan on mailing photocopies of super-secret government documents to terrorists in the American Midwest (or photographs of your awesome college closet-space marijuana farm to your buds back home), paint the envelope with black nail polish, then put THAT envelope in another envelope, and for fuck's sake, make sure you put enough stamps on that sucker. they've been doing that with email for years. when they did it with email (it is called project echelon? and is run by the fbi), the only time they use it is when they suspect 1. child pornography so it could be the same thing. they only use it when they suspect one of these 3 crimes are occuring.
