I was thinking of why I work out. Is it for Girls? Is it for strength? What is the reason?

Why did you all start working out and what is your reason for doing it now?

Has it changed?
Do you see yourselves doing it all of your life?
Was there a specific incident that drove you to it?

Thanks to all of you who decide to post.

I took a strength and conditioning class my freshmen year. The school had some great athletes and they were all in my gym class. I saw how much stronger they were then me and it really made me depressed. Now I am probably as strong as they are. It feels great, It helps you out in all other areas of your life as well. Began lifting weights for football -- coach wanted me in the weight room at least three days a week or suffer his wrath. I chose the weights.

I continue to lift weights simply because I have to -- it absolutely consumes me. It's a need that I have to feed.

Why do I lift weights -- Because I want to, because I have to, because I need to, because I can!!

------------------
Because I want to . . . Because I have to . . . Because I need to . . . Because I can!

Plain and simple: I want to look better. Is vanity the wrong motivation?

May, I don't think so.

For all the people who say it is- and they do it because they love it, etc- I ahve this question-

You wouldn't mind attaining what you're trying to attain now, getting the best pumps of your life, having hella strength, etc- but being an ugly SOB?

I was an angry kid. I was always getting into trouble. I used to run and release my anger until a buddy of mine told me he would kick my 120 lbs ass if I didn't work out with him.

I grew bigger almost overnight. That wasn't the important part though. When I was in the gym, all my anger dissapeared. A lot of people go into the gym to release aggression, for me it was a way to find peace and order to my chaotic world of work, school, money, bills and girls!

I think on nothing but the weights and making myself better than I was last time I squatted.....or inclined...or deadlifted.

Think about this: How many things in life do you have that are truely yours? You buy a house in cash but have to pay taxes right? If you don't the house is taken away. You have clothes that kind of depend on the styles of the time. Everybody can have them if they buy them. Even thoughts sometimes can be modified by peer and media influeneces.

Nobody can take my body. They cannot effect me when I am in the gym, in my element, with people such as yourselves.

To sum it up...I will alwasy train, but mostly for the sheer joy of it. I'm not too small (5ft4 and 185) and I will do another show within the next two years, but only to compete against myself.

Thank you all for posting responses. It's pretty interesting to see how others think about it. It makes me introspective about this weird fascination of bodybuilding that I have.

Thanks again!

Started working out at 13 cause I wanted to get girls. Then once I got into hockey in 9th grade and got fucking crushed by all the other kids cause I was small, short, and not too strong. Got a concussion and didn't want to be on the receiving end of a wu hit ever again. By that time I was 14-15 and near the end of 10th grade I was becoming a tank, but there were still those kids who I couldn't crush as they came across the blue line. The summer that just passed I lifted like a crazy man w/ the goal of being "The Iron Tank" one of the best hitting forwards in my league. This season I'm now the disher of Wu hits, the tank I wanted to be by my Junior year of hockey. Since I'm not the tank I want to be by my Senior year, it motivates me to lift more. I'm even farther away from being the tank I want to be in my Freshmen year of college, Sophmore year, etc., etc.
Plus if it helps me get girls then more power to me.

-This is gonna be a cosa nostra till I die, be it an hour from now or be it tonight or hundred years from now when I'm in jail, this is gonna be a cosa nostra.

the gym is on my way home, no more no less...if anything, my rock hard physique has been an intimidating hindrance...girls just use me as a throbbing fuck machine, never trying to uncover the innocent complexity that is "special bill"...

Because I know if i beat my young offenders while at work I will lose my job. So while they do time, I hit the gym, knowing that someday they will get out and we'll meet on the street

Seriously, what better way is there to make you feel good about yourself and release stress then lifting weights?? well, sex maybe as long as you don't feel like ya need to puke after it as well!
