Seriously Bro's and sis's the fact that we all have computers tells me that we all have things going well for us. There are so many children out there who will not get jack for X-mas because their parents can't afford it.

I have done this in the past, and have felt great satisfaction out of it. I delivered presents to several indigent families and nothing compares to the feeling you get when you see that childs face light up.

Seriously, how bout you shed 20-30$ out of your fat ass paychecks and make a little kids X-mas. Christmas is all about giving, its time we help those who are in need.

Just watch you local news a couple days before X-mas, you will see all kinds toy donations centers on the news, so take your greedy asses out there and donate.

just a suggestion

Great suggestion. Usually stores like Kmart and Walmart have trees set up with names of kids on them that need things. Remember those less fortunate.

OK, I know that I'm going to get flamed for this but I feel the need to speak my conscience.

My kids brought home flyers not too long ago about donating to a less fortunate family. They had the ages and sexes of the chilren w/a wish list. I'm thinking, "Cool, this will be a good way for my girls to appreciate the fact that they have a home, warm clothes, food AND TOYS EVERY DAY of the year and not only on December 25th. Upon closer inspection though, I saw that TWO of the THREE families (I have 3 school-aged children in the same school, different grades.) have PLAYSTATION 2 games on the wish list.

HELLO!!!! PLAYSTATION 2?!?!?!?!?!

Call me the FUCKING GRINCH, but WHAT THE FUCK IS UP WITH THAT?!

Here is a list of the things that my children do NOT have (and WILL NOT, because they do not NEED them....even if I DID have GOBS of money):

- video games (nintendo, playstation 1 or 2, gameboy or FUCKING ATARI for that matter).

- cable TV...there is enough mind-numbing, sexual bombardment, and horrific glamorization of violence on FREE TV, thank you. I don't particularly feel the need to pay EXTRA.

- electric car (y'know the ones that are to small to accomodate a child above the age of 4 but cost between 200 - 500$).

- razor scooter (they all have bicycles and they will be riding them LONG AFTER this dangerous fad is forgotten).

- rollerblades (but I will be getting them second hand ice-skates and ice-skating lessons from $that my mom and mother-in-law gave for Christmas presents for my girls) as a new ice-skating rink opened near our home.

- a trip to Disney land. I can not see the point of taking a child on such an expensive vacation ESPECIALLY when they are too young to be able to get through 4 hours in ONE THEME PARK without becoming EXHAUSTED and CRANKY not to mention the fact that that child will be too young to go on a VERY LARGE percentage of the rides anyway.

...And yes, I donate TONS of clothing to friends who are in a worse financial situation than I am (not that we are going too the poor house, because we ARE NOT) as well as other organizations on a regular basis.

And I do buy a toy and give to Toys For Tots when my children ARE WITH ME to remind them that there are many, MANY children who would have NO presents if it weren't for the generousity of people like them.

......just a thought.

Natymike, this is a great thread, thanks for starting it.

Bikinimom, I TOTALLY agree, my Student Council in high school used to get "wish-lists" and some of them had the audacity to ask, not for just clothes, but TOMMY H. clothes, and not a bike, but a HARO bike, etc., etc., you get the point...

My girlfriend and I picked on of those little leaves off of the tree at Wal-Mart and bought some clothes and learning toys for a 2 year old little girl, and it's the best I've felt inside, IN A LONG ASS TIME!

I say pick the ones that ask for clothes, and maybe some games, small stuff, etc. You can tell which ones are really NEEDY!

Natymike your right on the season, so people
should and can help another human being or a family.

Sometimes I get down, but when I see another in need it makes me change that tude, because there are others who have it worse, or nothing at all to even live for.

Donate to your local food drives, unwrapped toys and enjoy the giving. In giving we all
receive what the season is all about.

Ho, Ho, Ho...Merry Christmas!

Guys, I already donated a bunch of toys and books to my church to give to families who have nothing. There was well over $80 in toddler clothes toys and stuff. See I bought the stuff for the ex's son, & he said he didnt want anything from me so instead of taking everything back & getting the $$ I donated it this year! I did my good deed!

Thanks for this thread. I've been meaning to get around to this, but I'm definately gonna do it this week. The holidays get so busy its easy to forget about things like this. BM makes a good point about scammers----but if you donate to a reputable organization like Toys For Tots (run by the Marines)or through a church or homeless shelter I think the donations get to those who need them the most. Its nice to see so many people on here planning to do this.

I disagree with bikinimom; if or whenever I have children I will get them whatever that want; if I can afford to, and if I can't I will feel like shit. I feel it is my job since they are my children to provide them in whatever way I can. It is mostly up to them to decide what they want to do with their stuff. I see most people get their kids whatever they want to a certain age like 2 because they find them so adorable and want them to be so happy, but what I don't get is, why they stop doing it.

Big Whitey - did you read my ENTIRE post? What I was trying to say is that if a household can afford luxuries like Playstation 2, then they are not truly dependent on the charity of others to have a "merry christmas". I am NOT speaking of children who are living out of their cars because their parents lost EVERYTHING because one of them contracted a COSTLY illness (tell me which illness/injury isn't?), lost their job, and insurance because it was "maxed out"....so lighten up.

And fistfull, by your post it is apparent that you do not have children. No flame, just saying that if you, as the parent, teach your child that there is no limit to what they can have how rude of an awakening are they going to have when they leave your home, have to support themselves and realize that "love DON'T pay the rent?"

I am NOT anti-charity OR Christmas spirit...but honestly, how many children will be forgotten come December 26th when their still is no heat and they are hungry again?

.....just my .02
