If I want to insure my car in Pennsylvania to catch a break on insurance- do I need to trade in my NY license once I get a license issued in PA?

Do I have to pay any sort of taxes?

Any help is a appreciated.

no, but you need a pa address. if you live in the city, i can see why, but if you don't...then stay with ny insurance. pa insurance is accually higher the ny. i have lived in middletown, ny for 1 year, and my rate was lower than pa. i am not sure of how much you will be saving, but if it is not alot, i would stick to ny rather than get caught. just my opinion, good luck.

H,

You will need to register the car in PA, which means you will have to get PA PLATES and supply a PA mailing address.

Laws vary from state to state, but you should be able to keep your NY license - that should make no difference.

I have done this as well to avoid paying Ny insurance. Depending on where you are in NY, you could save a lot. Insurance companies assign insurance rates according to zip code, in addition to your driving history.

Saved me 3 grand over NJ rates

2 brand new cars full coverage $1100

In NJ it was $4200 and I have no points

You have to show a PENN license when you register the vehicles also your insurance company will need to see your PA license also.

DMV in PA is a dream compared to NY/NJ. No lines and no hassle.

Also based on the county you may or may not need an emissions test.

Tinted windows is a No-No for inspection.

e-mail me if you need specifics and who I got the best rates from.

Iron God, they actually changed it to where they can't fail you for tinted windows. The cops have light guns to decide if it's too dark, then they can ticket you. So if you're coming to PA to get your car inspected, don't bother taking your tint off anymore. Anything else you can think of is still illegal though.
