I got a key to my local weight room, but it's kind of annoying me lately. the owner always bitches, never any music playing cause he watches tv the whole time. only other place around is golds, while i'm sure all the freaks there will be a good motivation for me... what do you guys feel about gyms like GOLDS?

I hate Gold's. It is usually full of panzes. Guys in spandex and such. I like the old, dirty, hardcore gyms.

IF, IF IF...there were still "hardcore, underground-type gyms around, I'd be all up in 'em...UNFORTUNATELY, there aren't, so gyms like GOLD'S are the best around in my opinion...I lifted at the 'ole YMCA in my hometown (worked there, too, so FREE membership), but then started workin' out at Gold's gym here at school and it's SOOO much more motivating, seein' big huge motherf*ckers instead of elderly women and "bench-happy" 12 year olds...just my 2 cents...the equipment is top-notch, too!!

I go to a big chain gym...or rather, the owner used to own alot of gym, but, now has only 3 open....it's a smorgasborg......cardio queens and kings, spandex freaks, socializers, "chest only" lifters, "upper body" only lifters, "stretchers" (ppl that rarely do anything, but, stretch), powerlifters....lots more

I've worked and belong to different clubs and gyms.

My favorite was the old dirty, hardcore gyms too!

I train at a Powerhouse, I love it It's a pretty hardcore atmosphere. The owner is a good guy who runs it like it should be run.
There are a few spandex queens, etc but they are fun to laugh at.

There aren't too many gyms near my campus. The cmpus gym is small, lacks equipment and is often over crowded, so the Gold's Downtown St.Louis is pretty good. Other big guys, lots of great equipment and never too full.

I go to Bally's. It was a Gold's but it got bought out. Yes there is a lot of old people, but hey someday I will be old and still working out. At least I will have company.

As long as there are weights, put on your head phones and get it done. . .I don't care what gym I'm in.

I like that attitude Kodiak!! Although too much of the same atmosphere can get old after awhile....After watching some dude do 1 set every 10 minutes on a piece of equipment-all the while staring at people in the mirror, or Cardio Queens leaning into the mirror after EVERY set to fix their hair it gets kinda old....I like to switch back and forth every few months if I have the option....

Its all about POWERHOUSE...my gym is awesome...brand new, clean, 30000 sq feet, and house music blasting...no need for a walkman...but there are some ugly people. You can't have it all...

I work out at the 24 Hour Fitness across the street from my apartment. It's probably not would you call a "hard core" gym but I like it because: I don't have to wait for equipment, its clean, the people who work out there are laid back and helpful, I've never heard a cell phone ring or a pager go off, they play good music. Sure, its a chain, but this one appears to be managed well.
