Any person who becomes president believing it is their right to be the president will lead us into a war that we cannot win this time. But, the Florida state Legislature is going to pick its on electors most likelly for Bush. Not too mention the 44,000 plus votes that have to be counted by tuesday will never be completed. Plus the Florida Supreme Court is a puppet of the Democratic party. Gee go figure, they have overturned every lower court ruling favoring Bush and this time the used wording to be in line with the US Supreme Courts ideas. What a bunch of hypocritical bastards!

chesty: Lots of thoughts and few words up there bro. Not sure which points you are trying to make - more than anything else I see frustration at the process in your words. As far as war, I really and truly feel sorry for any service members if Al Gore wins.

Well it is like this, while I never endorsed either candidate and don't believe in the lesser of two evils argument in voting. I believe Gore has the belief that he deserves the presidency by right and by virtue. Leaders who believe this are very dangerous. Hitler, Stalin, Lennin and so on all believd it was ordained for them to become leaders of the world. Gore displays these traits. You can see it in the way he acts and talks and expresses his opinions. I firmly believe if he becomes president we will be thrust into a war that the world will lose. Florida and what is going on down there really bothers me as well. Here you have a completely Republican government down there and yet they are somehow about to choose Gore for president? That is confusing. Second, I find it a bit odd, that the highest court in Florida continually overides any decision that is benificial to Bush. Finally, the Florida state legislature will by virtue of its authority will pick its on electors to preserve what it believes is the will of the people based on the first three recounts. Yes, I am frustrated by the system and its huge failings.

I believe in you Chesty. I have stated in a lot of my posts that civil unrest will occur no matter the President is. It is a damn shame that Judges and Senators hold the power over an election of the people. In Ancient Rome, this abuse lead to the fall of that society. I believe that this happening has started. God help us all....... ------------------

the president is a puppet and doesn't do jack shit. its not a lessor of two evils, its who's a better actor thats all. the president is told when war is going to break out and briefed, and i'm sorry to tell u but if he wants a war and the real higher ups don't, fuck him, it aint gonna happen. so don't worry about who gets in bud, its all the same anyway. and by the way, this sounds tweaked but hitler, saddam, and all the rest, clinton and bush are just as bad. your gov't is just better at hidding it. just my opinion, not trying to step on toes here chesty. ------------------

Well, because of the War Powers act the president of the US has unlimited use of the military for up to 60 days without the authorization of Congress. Seocnd he can authorize a nuclear launch without the consent of the Congress either. In short while his hands are semi-tied when trying to get laws enacted, he is quite unrestrained in waging war of his choosing. And make no mistake, he will drag Canada into it if he deems it necessary.

Chesty, Anyone who says "it can't happen here" is fooling themselves. It most definitely can happen here. Please do not ascribe too much credit to the American populace to think for themselves or to be "well-enough educated". That's crap and you know it. Look how many people voted for Gore. :-) Hitler rose to power by promising a downtrodden country a resurgence. After Germany lost WW1, the winners handed Germany the bill which plunged them into severe depression; even worse than here. The people were miserable, and he promised tehm that would change. So they got behind him. Thee is one thing that always ends depression: WAR. So Hitler cranked up the war machine, and this culminated with the onset of WW2. It is easy to se why people followed Hitler. If one day, you were starving poor, and the next year, things were better, you'd probably follow him too. Plus he was an excellent charismatic speaker. Stalin came to power after the overthrow of the Czar. Interestingly, Karl Marx, Frederich Engels and Trotzky (sp?), the architects of Communism, were all Jewish. Their doctrine on Communism was that it would take hold AFTER the collapse of capitalism, so the people would be informed. After the overthrow of the czar, the true Communists wanted to to simply "give to the people". Stalin seized this opportunity to assume power as a virtual dictator. He actually hunted Trotzky down all the way to Mexico City an had him killed. Neither of those conditions exist here YET. But perhaps soon. The Internet was largely responsible for the collapse of Communism. The USSR and East Germany were able to feed their people propoganda that outsiders hd it much worse than they did. By restricting travel, most of their citizens never left, never saw anything else. But once the information became freely available (or threatened to), it was time for the Communists to pack it in. The Internet could cause a similar problem here, in time. It has been a tremendous money maker for some. It changed my career. But many here in the US are not technically proficient, and are missing out on the surge of money and informaton. The Internet is widening the gap between rich and poor, FAST. It is putting more money in the hands of some, at the expense of MANY others. Eventually, this redistribution of wealth will create a real problem. Tthe rich will simply exert their influence to prevent hgiher taxes from being levied; that is, they will finaly become unwilling to bear the burden of the por, and te poor will be sick of being poor. At that time, America will need a truly great preisdent, because a charismatic leader of the poor could become a great dictator.

War is obsolete.... At the turn of the 20th century it was thought that war was obsolete due primarily to the facts that world economies were merging and times were prosperous.... sounds familiar doesnt it???? it will turn the beliefs of the american people that the world is hunky dorie and thus we will lower out guard... there will always be war...there will always be leaders that believe they are supperior and deserve a more powerful role and thus my final point BULLSHIT the purpose of the military is to preserve our right of democracy, ironically enough it is that same democracy that doesnt realize its importance and it will parish ------------------

Correct, both for Matt and Conan. Yes, I do compare Gore to Hitler and Stalin and others, even the Roman Emporer's. Why? As I have stated before, he believes it is his ordained destiny to be the president of this country. The others all believed the same thing of their respective countries. Tyler, I know exactly how our system works, I have been here longer than most on this board have been alive. I have defended it through two enlistments in the Marines and one in the National Guard. Yes, the president has the power and authority to wage war without the consent of congress for up to 60 days before needing their consent to continue. It is called the war powers act. Yes, he can order the launch of nuclear missles without congressional agreement. He can also sign and has signed executive orders (presidents of the past) that give the current president the authority to declare martial law if he see's fit to. Gee, I look at presidents like Kennedy who almost got us into a nuclear war with Russia, Lyndon B. Johnson, who kept us in Vietnam without ever wanting us to win because it was good for big busisness to drag the war out as long as possible. If you look at the rise and fall of the Roman empire you will see many many parallels between their rise to power and fall to ruins and ours. I firmly believe we are in the latter stages of decline that will ultimately lead to the destruction of America. This is another reason that Gore scares me, he has helped give away our missile technology to the communists, has asked for money from the communist chinese military, and would like to see world wide birth control governed by the United Nations (something I heard years ago, can't prove that one though, yet.) And yet, despite all of these warning signs people are still devoutly pledging themselves to him. Look at all the people who voted for him. Look at how for three times now people have voted for someone of even less moral character than almost any, if not all presidents in the past. My taxes have gone up, my freedoms have gone down. Soon I will have nothing left but the air I am soon to be charged for to breath. As Matt has said and I say, if you believe it cannot happen here, you are fooling yourself and are helping it to happen here, by refusing to believe it could. Apathy is the number one killer of freedom.

You guys are some real conspiracy theorists. The only wars I forsee will be over resources. (Clean water, oil, etc.) Other than that, terrorism will be the thorn in our side-

Chesty, yes Florida is majority Republican (barely), but most of the members of the state supreme court were appointed previously by Democratic governors. Thats why most of them are biased favoring ozone-man.
Guru Posts: 4195 |
That is why I find the overturning of lower court rulings favoring Bush to be very odd. It seems as though the court is wielding its power to elect the president of their choice, regardless of the original vote.
Pro Bodybuilder Posts: 436 |
I think they'll keep "re-counting" until via "dimples", "hanging chads" & subjectively (a euphamism for "biased") determining "voter intent", ozone man & his pinko liberal minions finally get their way. Their behavior in this respect is consistent with that of all liberal whiners.

Chesty, I too have read about the rise and fall of teh Roman empire and yes, there are many parallels. However, information distribution is so easy now (whereas then it was virtually non-existent) that parallels are sketchy. the 10th Amendment was instituted to prevent that: leaving powers to the states unless explicity granted in the constitution. States are small enough to manage their own populations - whereas the US governement ccannot efficiently manag 300M people without becoming the huge bureaucratic mess that it is. The states need to have more autonomy to care for their people - it is easier to manage 6 or 7 million than 300 million. This would streamline federal governement in accordance with the designers of the constitution's guidelines. It would also deal special interests groups a fatal blow, and reduce the threat of what Chesty suggests.

trust me,if the need be, the US supreme court will strike down the FL supreme court's decision. with the decision to recount those 9,000 votes yesterday, the FL supreme court basically slapped the US supreme court in the face. and conan69 hit the nail right on the head by mentioning the appointing of the supreme court justices, that is a MAJOR issue.

The maintenance of freedom is eternal vigilance. Sure there are problems with Bush and I do not agree with everything he says, but the chance of "Novacaine smile" Al serving a presidency sends chills down to the bone. Once again, God help us! ------------------
