inside our bodies, our cells? i think about this shit sometimes. a whole entire existence inside of our beings. a world like we live in inside just one of our cells. i know there is probably no possible way, but just what if! this ought to mess with some heads. ------------------ freakdaddy

Well, if you look at the Earth, and it's relation to our universe, logic would say that there is at least a possibility of a universe inside of us.

you can relate with this havoc. when i used to burn, i would love to go into a trance or just meditate, and take myself as deep into my feelings and being as i could possibly take myself. i could find things i could never possibly find if i was'nt burning. i miss that! i think i'm going to go burn now, hehe! ------------------

I could relate to that years ago but now its always like that, I have evolved. ------------------

sounds like an old marvel comics concept: "worlds within worlds" and "alternate universes" were things they used to talk about... i think about that sometimes...they used to talk about an alternate universe for every one of your decisions (preposterous, i know). it's interesting to think about how a difference in even a relatively minor decision can cascade and affect so many things. "sliding doors" comes to mind.

Runner, I think what you mentioned is known as the Many Worlds Interpretation of Quantum Mechanics. It says that all possible outcomes at a particular moment occur but in seperate and distinct realities. say I am driving and reach an interesection. Either i choose to turn right or left. According to the many worlds theory both events actually occur but in seperate branches of reality. This means that there are an infinite number of versions of "me", each one unaware of any of the others. This is only one interpretaion of quantum mechanics, there is also the copenhagen interpretaion(which makes more sense to me). An example, known as "Schrodinger's cat" can sum up the difference between classical physics, the copenhagen interpretaion and the many worlds interpretation. A cat is put inside a box. inside, there is a device that can release a deadly gas. a random event determines whether the gas is released or not. Without opening the box, there is no way to know what happened. the box is then sealed and the gas is either released or not(dependiing on the random event) The question is, without looking, what has happened. Classical physiics says the cat is either dead or alive, and all we have to do is open the box to see which one is the case. alright thats enough for now.

Hey BIGWORM, is there any books on that stuff that you would recommend?

No, they all just make it up as they go.

engine9, take special bill's advice and get you hands on some of Richard Feynman's work. Feynman and Stephen Hawking are the authorities on this stuff. Hawking is a brilliant man, some even compare him to Einstein. He essentially discovered black holes and has written a lot about them and other cool stuff. If you haven't already read "a brief history of time" i recommend it. its short and a relatively easy read, without overwhelming technical jargon. Thanks runner, i'll definetly check out that book. The implications of relativity and quantum mechanics has aways intrigued me even though i normally despise science. [This message has been edited by Big Worm (edited December 08, 2000).] |
