To have a goal or expectation is to live in the root of desire, desire leads to suffering and the complications of duality.

Duality brings us further from oneness not closer to it.

your turn!

If you desire to become a doctor and you get a c in phys. Chem and you are upset by this then you are suffering.

Back at cha!

FYI: I just love these type of discussions, I'm still searching for my own meaning of truth by the way. But this type of exercise benifits myself and I think all who participate.

so I get a C, and I get dissappointed therefore I shouldn't pursue my goal to become a doctor. We all have disappointments in life like it or not. It's how you handle the disappointment.

I wasn't talking about how people handle these things, I was stating an equation, Desire = Suffering. This is just a fact of the universe. I in no way stated that one should not pursue their desires.

Some schools of that relating to the Pantunjali have treatises on how the one pointed nature of desire can lead one to enlightenment and oneness.

This is known as the path of the Gods.

By many this is considered the lower path of oneness but that is a judgement and therefore clouded by desire. No one knows the true nature of either path because you don't know this till you die, or achieve nirvana.

desire does not always lead to suffering, that is a fallacy. if i desire and to become a doctor does that mean I have to suffer to become a doctor. The answer is No.

whether the dissapointment is great or small does not matter. This takes one away from the state of Nirvana and therefore is suffering.

Matt that was classic.

kat as to Kharma, start looking at kharma as simply "that which is done". For in reality it is nothing more or less than this statement. Kharma is neither good nor bad, we only color kharma good or bad through our perceptions.

desire does not cause suffering but rather the lack of whatever it is the person is desiring that causes the suffering.
if i desire a million dollars is my wish for a million dollars causing my suffering or my lack of the million.
now if i desire some hot sex and i wake up my gf and get some than my desire has brought me pleasure.

Fist-O-Knowledge,

Your loss of temper during this displays your exasperation. See, you DESIRE to make us understand you is leading to the SUFFERING displayed in the temper of your posts.

Ha ha ha ha ha....

If you don't realize by now that desire causes suffering, then you are either:

1. Twelve years old
2. Have never accomplished anything
3. Have a chromosomal shortage

I would really like you to cite examples of people who have accomplished anything meaningful without disapointment.

what do you have next semester, Philosophy 102? Can't wait!

But when you desire this water you are trying to avoid thirst. If you then go to the bathroom and pee for five straight minutes are you not suffering the slings and arrows of over hyrdrating your body.

Do not your kidneys cry out "ENOUGH WITH THE WATER MOFO!".

One reason the Buddha is called such is because he had this epiphany that all desires lead to suffering. This does not mean that desire is a bad emotion to have, it only means that he discovered one of the fundamental points of duality in nature.

Eligtenment is not a crack of thunder in your brain. It is the simple realization of the nature of self.

FFS, You do desire to make a point her and you are suffering my endless box question ramblings. Reread this entire thread and then if you standback from your emotions, analyze how you felt when you wrote your post, you will find a "Moment of Zen". Personally I actually have no emotions put forth here. I am simply stating the bhudda's simple truths.

FYI: I did not intend for you to become angry, then again I did not intend anything when I originally posted in this thread.

When I say you make me laugh, I don't mean "Ha, you idot I laugh at you." type of thing. I mean I am truley having fun and getting some giggles out of this and I in no way mean that as a disrespect. Having someone enjoy your writing and getting some humour out of it, is for me, a true joy in life.

mattthedicklicker, you are the one who is missing the point, and hopefully you will learn how to hold an arguement together one day.
