So many people in my gym don't deadlift. Actually all they usually do is bench press and curls....the same group only maybe 2 days a week. ------------------

I still deadlift. I mostly do pin pulls (DLs in the squat rack from knee level). I don't go from the ground too often anymore. Still occassionally though. From the ground sometimes diamond bar, sometimes straight bar. DLs are a kick-ass exercise. Just about anybody should work these into their routine -- at least occassionally.

Of course I do deads....that goes without saying......that's an obscene question to ask me, BigTruck......but, I like obscene..as a matter of fact, I was asking Wodin how to do a Keystone Deadlift..... I do my deads on a step....I mostly do S.L. deads.....but, I do it all!!

Sometimes I go over to Special Billys and deadlift his turquoise Gremlin, oh and Thick Dawgs mom is a good deadlifting tool as well. ------------------

Zuess, try the trap bar (diamond bar) -- world of difference if a straight bar bothers you...
Elite Bodybuilder Posts: 829 |
You guys are going to eat this up...I have never done a dead lift, and I honestly don't know the proper technique or I would try them. I don't even see people in my gym doing them to watch and learn. I heard they are awesome for your back and traps.

i don't DL very much, but i do the mafuckas every week. i can say in all honesty that i am the only person in my gym who does them regularly. sometimes when i really want to go heavy i'll simply undo my pants and do sets of lifting my cock off the ground. i need wrist wraps for that though. ------------------
Guru Posts: 2451 |
i do them once a week...im pulling 405 for reps from the ground, straight bar...my back has never looked thicker...those lower inner lats and erectors could feed a small family...

YEA BIG RUCK THATS THE ONE I MEAN WHEN I SAY DEAD BAR. THE DIAMOND AND IT HAS GRIPS ON EACH SIDE. I USED TO LOVE DEADS WITH THAT THING. ALL THE WEIGHT AND PRESSURE WAS CENTERED...ZEUS13

I love the feeling I get when I do deadlifts...I get so fucking pumped. I did them last night. Does anybody ever do Power Cleans? ------------------

I mainly do stiff-legged deadlifts on leg day now. I may start incorporating regular ones in again.
Elite Bodybuilder Posts: 682 |
Really Lisa??? Oh. I use one of them 5' jobbies because the 6' is wayyy too much weight off balance for me.

Can't get by without them. Stiff Leg on Leg days (sometimes on a box) and Bent legged on Back day. Do 'em both and love it. Some people at my gym actually do do them. Now power cleans, I have not tried yet. I did ask a question about them and got a lot of info, but they seem to be a Leg/Explosive exercise. BB, what to you find they work. I do know that cleans are a hard exercise to learn, and I just have made the effort/time yet. Dead Lift, Dead Lift, Dead Lift....or DIE ------------------

yeah, taking anything from the floor is alot of fun (espec if you are a long armed midget lifter like me). Keystones are awesome! They boosted my conventional DL more than actually DLing. The trick is locking into the position where your knees are bent a little, your butt sticks out, your back is strongly arched, and your chest pushed out as much as possible. Keep the bar close to the body. Even if you are super flexible, it is impossible and counterproductive to lower a proper keystone more than 3-4" below knee level without dis-engaging the hammies.

Deadlifts are a must in my book. I'm only 16 and started working out not too long ago and I have found how good deadlifts have been working my back. I also find it fun as hell. I think my friend and I are the only ones doing it at the gym. I have never seen anyone else do it since I've been going there. I love DL. ------------------

I used to deadlift like a psycho but then I decided I didn;t want to get any bigger. I was doing over 700 pounds, and when I dropped the weight, the whole gym shook (I was on the bottom floor and you could feel it upstairs). The gym owner always was bitching about it, but he's a jackass. Now I just do it lightweight (315 or so) for many reps. Still love it.

I just started back recently. I feel much thicker when I do them. I'm hoping they will add some extra size to my thighs and hamstrings also.

Hey everyone i'm at the library doing research...boring....well i deadlifted for the first time saturday. My form was pretty good i'd say, its an intense workout for the back...back is still sore. ------------------

I do only SLDL. regular deadlift is a good exercise. for bodybuilding purposes it is good also. however, I feel that it is a little overated. At the risk of being flamed I will say this. IMO. btw I have a very good back for my size, look up pics of me if you are in doubt. and my max deadlift is about 470lbs. (I do max on DL every 2 months or so)

I do straight leg dead lifts mostly hoping to hit my hamstrings. I've been skipping them lately though, I really don't like them. I have to gear right up in straps and belt just in order to hold the bar, and not break my back....simply wussin' out lately I guess.

Thank you ma'am, may I have another! ------------------

sumo deads beat any excercise I think. clean and jerks are nice too. I have been powerlifting for a couple of months doing a crossover from BB. I hope to compete in meets very soon. Deads help my overall strength better than squats. I don't believe in deadlifting with straps or gloves. takes some time to build the hands though. chalk works better than gloves any day. ------------------

I never use a belt for deads. Does anyone?? And is it better??

Stiff-legged deadlifts are my favorite. That's another way to keep the a** tight! Maybe try this site: http://www.bodybuilder.org/ I don't think I could put the explanation of a deadlift into words. Someone else may help..... ------------------ [This message has been edited by Fitnes1 (edited November 30, 2000).]

Fitness1 - you wouldn't happen to need a spotter for those SLD's would you??? ------------------ The moral? It doesn't matter whether you are a lion or a gazelle, when the sun comes up - you had better be running. [This message has been edited by The Shadow (edited November 30, 2000).]

24YO still doing Deads I don't do the heavy singles and doubles anymore. I normally workout with less that 450 for reps of 8-10.

You haven't really lifted until you've done deads. The hardest part about deads is gettin' the bitch off the floor. After that, its all you. Hell yeah, DL's rule. You know I do them. Remeber my pic? I was all traps! |
