Hello people, i need some help with my diet, im training 5 times a week 2 of those days cardio. My problem is im not bulking up as much as i want mainly because i get too fat around the waist line too easily, i eat a lot of protein but try to not eat as many calories will this be enough to gain properly or are calories essencial. I heard somewhere the body needs something like 10000 calories to build 1lb of muscle. If i consumed all those calories i fear i would get too fat rather than gain muscle, any help would be great, thanks in advance, Jim.

I will put this very simply for you. To gain weight(in this case muscle mass) you must consume more calories than your body uses in a day. To loose weight(fat, but some muscle will go too) you must use more calories than you are consuming. You can't build a brick house without any bricks, and you need enough bricks to complete that house. Yes, calories are the base of all that is nutrition. What you eat and the amounts you eat them make up your daily calorie intake. If you want to grow you have to give your body what it needs to grow. What it needs to grow is excess calories to add weight. ------------------

Cheers beezer, how many calories would you guys recommend eating in a day without storing them as excess fat. I am training intensly with weights 3 times a week and doing around 40 mins cardio twice a week. I think my training is ok i just think i need to clean get some more calories in to add more bulk. At the moment i am 185 pounds and have been training for about a year serious training, but every time i try to add bulk i get big around the waist line mostly. Would be greatfull for the help and sorry for the long post |
