CHIP! most of them come tuned down from the factory for fleet emission purposes...
my dad had a 90-91(?) 300 ZX twin turbo with an add on chip that boosted the HP 20-25%...

bore out the pistons,add a super charger,get a better intake system, hmm there are alot of was to do it

I'm sure you did... my spyder has horrible accelleration below 50mph... but it looks good.

yea the cheapest options are chips, kn filters, exhaust, new ignition, possible turbo or s-charger
