Deer hunting pisses me off. I live in a rural area and see hundreds of beer bellied buffoons on the side of the road acting like they are a bunch of bad asses because they are going out to kill something. The deer know they are in danger and are smarter than the hunters. Whenever deer season starts, many of the deer come into my town where it is illegal to shoot them. Weird. ------------------ | ||

Most of the time the deer are smarter than these lazy narrow minded incompitent slobs who feel the need to express thier dominance on helpless unknowing animals because they can't be kings of the mountain with the human population. For food and survival is one thing but for the feeling of supiriority is complete ignorance and a pittifull representation of an already dominat species. We are already blessed with the most powerfull weapon of all, our minds, but we still for some illogical reason feel the need to express further superiority. With these minds of ours, we, earths superior species, should understand the fact that this is not our planet alone. We should know this fact better than any other animal whom dwells on this planet. We too are animals, that, like all other species thrive off this planet and what it has to offer us. With these minds of ours we have been able to figure out how to mass produce food and harness the power of the earth to the point where we don't need to kill any more animals to ensure our survival. With our minds we have figured out domestication. We developed agrcultural processes to guarantee we are in constant suply of an efficient energy source. In our society(the US) we don't neccesitate any more food to the point at which we must have massive huntings to get us through the harsh winter months. Mass deer kills arn't to ensure food or supplies, they are to ensure we don't f**k our cars up by hitting one. Hunting has become mearly for pleasure. For the weak of our species to exibit that even they, the weak ones, are still all-mighty. I will never see the reasoning behind cowardly killing an animal just to claim you got a ten pointer. He who kills the deer with the most points on its antlers is still a mortal. WTF does that prove. If you want to express your sheer mightyness macho man then get out there and run the f**ker down yourself. If you can't run it down and have the strength to take it out on your own then I guess you arn't superior. I would love to see some of these lazy lard asses try and do this. Good luck tough guy. When your out of breath by the time you get off your ass and just think about physical activity then there really isn't much worry for the animals huh? I can see maybe killing one deer a year because I know some people actually do use it for things other than wall mounts but if you do it just to kill then you are a weak minded person. Obviously none of you no shit about Deer hunting. ESPN hunting is not hunting-its staged. Yes, there are very shady places that charge people to hunt in a zoo-like atmosphere and in places like Texas it is not a sport. Come to the Louisiana swamp and try to take on a 225 buck with a knife, you will not make it out. Fuck, you wont get within 100yds of one anyway. I havent seen a deer in the swamp on a still hunt in 3 years. ------------------ | ||

First off I am not a hunter. But I think that one thing that people have to keep in mind when thinking and talking about hunting is that we(especially bodybuilders) eat lots of meat every day. Is it better that we eat a chicken that has lived in a pen its whole life just waiting to be slottered. Or maybe a stupid cow that has had no life. All I am trying to say is that most hunters do eat the meat from what they kill. If they don't then that is wrong. But at least they see the process by which many of us get our daily caloric intake and don't pretend that we don't have to harm animals to survive. Just a thought on part of what I think about hunting. | ||

Hunting has been a family tradition for 100's of years. Fathers and sons (some daughters) spent time together. Granted, not many Americans need to hunt for food, but certainly many do. Hunting helps keep kids off the streets and teaches respectful gun control. It allows parents to spent time bonding with their kids. It also should teach respect for mother nature and keep a balance in nature. If you want to use deer as an example, consider this: Deer really have no natural preditors anylonger. In many areas in the south, deer are becomming pests and a traffic hazard. They eat shrubs and flowers. I lived in a private community in Ga. The association paid thousands to tranquilize the deer and wild hogs. As a matter of fact, many Universities are trying to formulate birth control for the deer problem. Hunting is a mananged event.(Checks and balances established by Fish and Game)It generated tax dollars in way of hunting lic. and fees. Hunting also is a way to keep populations in check. For those who think deer hunting is getting drunk, walking in the woods and slaughtering a poor helpless deer is very misinformed. Deer have survived by a keen sense of smell, sight, hearing, and seems like radar! They are king of their enviroment, and sense when things aren't right. Sure, abuses exist just as abuses exist in bb, driving, criminal justice and the list can run on and on.(just look at the election bull shit!) Take a kid fishing or hunting and teach them proper gun control and respect of mothernature. Get them off the streets and from behind their video games. My opinion, hunting with respect is a very good thing!!!!!!! My fondist memories are that of my grandfather and I spending quality time together and learning about nature. | ||

Im not a hunter myself and to be honest I dont care if they shoot a fuckin deer with a bazooka. Us all being lifters in here probably eat enought beef and chicken. I give more respect to the hunter because he goes out and kills it before he eats it where as lazy asses like us go to the supermarket and get a pound of roastbeef. There really is no difference between us and the deer hunter were are just as guilty of killing poor defenseless animals also... Maybe the cow aint as cute as Bambi but its the same thing..... Unless you are a vegitarian.... Just my 2 cents hope ya dont flame me up here LOL | ||

Try living in the southeastern US. All of the rednecks around here hunt whatever is in season, and make some of the most assinine comments when they ask me to go, and I tell them that I don't hunt. They look at you as though you are completely abnormal. You should see some of the looks that I get when I say that I am going to the gym, instead. At the same time, I realize that if not hunted, deer would overwhelm the area in a couple of years. I just don't see any reason to be so proud of yourself when you shoot a 250lb buck with a rifle at 500 yards with a scope and every other unfair advantage you can think of. I would hate to think that I could have missed with the kind of advantages some of these guys go into the woods with. ------------------ | ||

If I could run down a dear hell I'd do it with a knife. As it happens I can almost catch them on my mountain bike. If I could get a human wasteoid license I'd invite WCP and we could bag our limit. Then, of course, go to confession. To forgive is divine... Shooting a deer with a high powered scoped rifle is not a sport. Hauling a deer out of the woods is a workout though. I have done both, because I wanted to eat the deer. I'd have to agree that some of the most ignorant pieces of beer-bellied trash I've ever met were wearing hunter orange though. I see A LOT of very uneduacted replies above. Sadly, it seems that very few of you even understand what hunting is. It's not the fat bastards on the side of the road. It's not the blood thirsty buffoons. What it is.............you might not ever know. It is something that only those who truly do can truly understand and appreciate. The wilderness that hunting has drawn me into is forever a part of me. If any of you haters could see what hunting is to me you would feel foolish for catorgerizing hunters in the fashion you did. I make an annual trip to Montana where I meet up with some old college buddies. We go into some of the only real wilderness left in the lower 48 to hunt bull elk with bow & arrow. We camp out in remote basins, in a land that the grizzly call home. We take afternoon naps in the shade of a conifer, and the true definition of wilderness it is indeed. If the hunt brings us the soul of an animal, then that is cherished. We are thankful for the beast and the meat it provides. | ||

Dr. Atlas, I respect your knowledge of AS, but if you are extremely uneducated about something,(hunting, as is very obvious)please dont respond. There is a huge difference between, lets say a half-tamed northern deer that encounters humans every day, and a Louisiana Swamp deer that will never see a human. They are two totally different animals. And it is not easy to take down a buck from 200yds away with any type of scope.Believe me. ------------------ | ||

What the hell is up with this. NOthing is wrong with wanting to have the biggest deer rack on your wall, hell we all want to be the biggest in the gym right. So what is different than wanting to be the best hunter or bodybuilder. Personal I like the feeling of killing your own food. Nothing better than knowing you can live without a damn supermarket to go buy your meat. Most hunters use the meat they kill and a few hunters/poachers are just total shit and will kill a deer and take its head leave the body, they are the ones that make everyone look bad. ------------------ | ||

I hunt pigs here, just use dogs and a knife. I have an american bulldog, 2 of his pups which are half lab and a pitt/whippet. We got one last week behind my house, the dogs chased it down the hill and caught it in the neighbours garden. He was at work but it freaked his wife out :-) | ||

I would think that spotlight hunting is aginst the law because in the example of deer they come out from the woods around dusk and are out all night grazing. Shit Ive spotlighted deer at night (just to look) and they are in hay fields like heards of cattle. ALso I think alot of people hunt rabbit cause they like to eat it, and your not going to have to much luck hunting a rabbit with a knive. ------------------ |
