Then we let Texas into the Union.

Then we had a bloody civil war in which the South championed slavery and after which the South acted with all the anger and resentment of a bad loser, through another century and a half of sullen disaffection and a martyrdom complex.

Then we re-admitted Texas to Congressional representation.

Then Hitler created Auschwitz and showed us just what humans are capable of.

Then the US saved western Europe by overrunning Nazi Germany, but they contracted something nasty and brought it back with them.

Then the last idealistic US president capable of delivering an effective, dignified speech was assassinated in Dallas. When people asked: �Who killed JFK?� no one said: �His enemies: who else?� Network TV announcers screamed �No conspiracy� while the shots were still being fired.

Then the Warren Commission created the myth of the disgruntled lone gunman and gave people a sick idea that would not otherwise have been thought of.

Then Charles Whitman murdered 17 people, shooting them from the observation deck of the University of Texas Tower in Austin, developing the Warren Commission�s theme.

Then young people in the Sixties protested against inherent human evil and madness, most of them without quite knowing what they were doing and very few of them articulating it properly.

Then Richard Nixon said: "I want the Brookings Institute safe cleaned out."

Then Nixon went into plumbing, but his work was sub-standard.

Then the Far Right worked up a culture of anger and reprisal � the Execution Culture � with the death penalty as its entertainment showpiece, as the prime example of "justifiable homicide."

Then children with guns began to carry out what they considered to be "justifiable homicide" at school, and Society tried to blame rock music, video games and films, forgetting that "video games do not kill people: people do."

We therefore ask ourselves why our children don�t know right from wrong and say that we reap what we sow, but we conveniently forget most of what we sow.

And the concerned student asks God why he does not calm the anger of the fanatics, and God replies: "I am not welcome in many of their churches."

When there is a just cause such as freedom, it does not come at a cheap price. It does not come from talk or rhetoric. It comes from the soul, and you must be willing to sacrifice your soul for freedom. What do the colors of the flag stand for? These are the ideas upon which this Nation is founded.

As for school shootings, those kids have a head full of bad wiring, and or their parents did not bust that ass when needed. Being a parent is not meant to be all fun and no pain. When my child is hurt I hurt, my kids have scared me to the point of almost passing out when I thought my older boy was about to get seriously injured.

But nothing compares to the hurt when you have to punish your child with an ass whooping. I know, I have had to whip my kids ass from time to time. But they learn the consequences of doing wrong and also learn what is wrong. I also teach them that difference.

The parents today of a lot of kids don't do that, they don't spank their kids cause it is wrong, and so on, yet I see most of those families with most of the problems.

Capital punishment Damn straight I am for it! Why should that waste of human skin be allowed to live comfortably for 15 or 20 years or life, after raping and killing and such. What a deal. Whack someone get free room and board at taxpayer expense. Our homeless and poor don't get treated as well.

Guns don't kill, guns do not perpetuate violence any more than a butter knife or fork. People kill period. And they will kill with whatever means available, if there is a gun they will use it, if there is a knife they will use it, a bat, a screwdriver, their bare hands.

The answer to this country's problems does not lie in its mechanical devices, it lies with the people who live here and run the country. Untill we decide to get back to basics and start teaching our kids in school again why this country was founded without the political correctness and teach our kids the history of this country good and bad then we will be back on the path.

Read some history. The United States was religiously intolerant (unless you were Christian and even then there were problems).

Immigrants throughout history have not been "equal" and how about those people brought over in shackles. Were they equal or just 1/6th of a man?

If this country is so religously intolerant than why do we have everything from atheism to satan worship.

You missed the entire point of my post. If we tried to do something like the founding fathers and the people who originally founded this country what would that constitution read like. What would be the principles upon which it was created and what would it be like 225 years from then?

The choice of words and beliefs were based on the time period. And as time has progressed so has the thinking and understanding of our world and country. The Constitution is a living document not a dead one, it grows as we grow.

You will die for nothing. All of the men in US history have died to make the rich richer. That is not honorable, that is being led by a leash.
